Consider us officially stunned. With less than 7 hours left of our campaign, we just met and SURPASSED Stretch Goal #3!
More than anything, this Kickstarter has shown us that when people come together to support something they believe in, anything - ANYTHING - is possible.
Thank you for this massive vote of confidence. We love you!

WOW! We just reached our SECOND STRETCH GOAL! We are really feeling the love, y'all. We're thrilled to have tour support, and we're excited to send our $25 & up backers your GREATEST HITS albums.
AND we still have 24 hours to reach for Stretch Goal #3: Music Videos - $55,000! If you've been enjoying our ridiculous little videos during this campaign, imagine what we could do with a little professional help (flash mob, anyone?).
If we hit it, all backers at the $40 level and up will get a hanky that says, "All the feelings, all the time." Because you need it. For your feelings.
UH-mazing! Last night, we nailed our FIRST STRETCH GOAL!
Thank you to everyone who has jumped on this folky bandwagon of feelings thus far...we are amazed, inspired, and energized by your belief in us!
We still have FIVE DAYS left to do as much as we can do with this momentum, so let's keep it going and reach for:
STRETCH GOAL #2 - $50,000 - TOUR SUPPORT & MUSICIANS!
A huge part of releasing an album is taking it out on the road, but it's also one of the most expensive, and we can't always travel and far and wide as we'd like. Hitting this stretch goal would give us the leeway to travel to more cities for our CD release tours (even internationally) and to bring along a musician or two when it makes sense to help fill out the sound.
Reward: If we hit this stretch goal, ALL BACKERS at the $25 level and above will get an exclusive, digital SPECIALLY CURATED GREATEST HITS ALBUM of Ty & Ingrid's favorite songs they've ever recorded! The album will include songs from ALL our previous projects (Girlyman, Coyote Grace, Captain Gravel, The Garden Verge, Ty's solo album, and MoB's EP) as well as personal notes about each song.
Five days...a lot can happen. Thank you again for your love and support!
Ty & Ingrid
FIRST GOAL 100% FUNDED - THANK YOU! We're into the FIRST STRETCH GOAL!
Together WE DID IT - we met our first goal! We are so happy and grateful that we get to MAKE THIS ALBUM - it's an incredible privilege and we're humbled and buoyed by your support.
Now we're looking ahead to the very important work of reaching our FIRST STRETCH GOAL of $45,000 - PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN.
Reaching this goal will make the crucial difference in whether or not this album is heard by the larger world. You all have been amazing at sharing this campaign and spreading the word, and it is making a huge difference! Let's keep going so this album can get the promotion it needs to really be heard.
As a reward, if we reach $45,000, ALL BACKERS will get a BONUS song that won't be on the album. Let's do this!
With gratitude and love,
xo Ty & Ingrid
Hi! We're Tylan Greenstein and Ingrid Elizabeth. We formed Mouths of Babes just over a year ago with nothing but each other, a metric ton of songs, and a strong intuition that we should make music together.
Both of us had recently endured extreme loss and a career identity crisis, but we survived thanks to our love and our community, which blazed a light through that dark night of the soul. At the other end, we found ourselves staring down the barrel of a decision: To completely reinvent ourselves in the vast sea of performing songwriters, or just lay it all down and start a completely new chapter of life.
We rested. We cried. We drank tea. We got jobs. We journaled. We gardened. We slept. We got more jobs. We cried some more. We wrote and wrote and wrote new songs. We felt all the feelings. We started drawing up new plans, with new rules and new dreams. Finally, we quit our jobs. We picked a name. We packed up the car. We high-fived about it, and never looked back.
Though we knew we’d have to start all over again, we decided to return to the path of music anyway - and to do it with even more love and authenticity than ever before. Now we have an opportunity to take this project to the next level and get our music out into the world on a much bigger scale. We’re ready to hit the ground running and make the first Mouths of Babes full-length CD, but we can’t do it without you!
For those of you who just tuned in, for many years Ty Greenstein was a member of the folk-pop quartet Girlyman, and Ingrid Elizabeth was a member of the roots trio Coyote Grace. Some of you might have caught our bands when they toured together and sang in 6-part harmony (which is how the two of us met).
What we didn’t know back then was that, a) our bands would soon be going off the road indefinitely, and b) meeting each other would change our lives forever. The bond we formed on those tours turned into a deep friendship, which evolved into love, which, as of last May, became a marriage! Strangely enough, we never imagined that making music together would be part of the equation.
But life had its own plans for us. In 2013, with the generous support of 760 Kickstarter backers, Ty released her solo album, One True Thing. As promised, she took the CD release tour all over the country, and brought Ingrid along to play bass and sing harmonies. Soon after, we were each invited to be a part of a songwriting challenge called Real Women Real Songs, where we wrote a song every week for a whole year (NO BIG DEAL). We wrote about love, politics, sex, suicide, racism, Whole Foods – you name it. We started playing the songs together, and at the end of that year, put all the resources we had into recording our little debut EP, Faith & Fumes. Mouths of Babes was born!
For the most part, record labels don't make albums happen anymore (unless you're Adele). The way most albums get made today is with the dedication and support of the people who love the music. We're both incredibly grateful that in all our musical endeavors we've been lifted up by people who believe in what we do and want to take part in its creation. We're well aware that that's what keeps this little hope machine alive.
In that spirit, we'd like to invite you to be a part of this album, from the very beginning - to not just enjoy what it ends up being, but to know that you've personally helped bring it into the world. And we hope you enjoy the rewards we came up with!
THE MINIMUM GOAL: $35,000 – MAKING THE ALBUM
To make this album, the bare minimum we’ll need to raise in 30 days is $35,000. Kickstarter is all or nothing, so if after 30 days we fall short of this goal, your cards won’t be charged and we won’t get any of the funding. Our plans will be shelved and we'll all be sad.
But if we reach our minimum goal, we will be able to pay for RECORDING, PRODUCTION, MIXING, MUSICIANS, MASTERING, ARTWORK, PHOTOGRAPHY, and DUPLICATION, as well as KICKSTARTER and CREDIT CARD FEES (which are about 10% of gross pledges). How great is that?
This minimum goal does NOT, however, include any kind of PUBLICITY, RADIO PROMOTION, or TOUR SUPPORT. So, to give this album a fair chance to be heard, we’ve established a few STRETCH GOALS (and bonus rewards to go with them).
STRETCH GOAL #1: $45,000 – PUBLICITY & RADIO PROMOTION
If only pouring your heart into the songs and making an earth-shattering album were all you needed. These days, to be heard above all the noise, you need to have a good PR campaign or risk having the album die a sad, lonely death. If we raise $45,000 or more in 30 days, we will be able to pay for a PROFESSIONAL PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN, including PRESS, RADIO, and INTERNET PROMOTION. This will give the album a much better chance of getting reviews and airplay and being heard by a wider audience. For everyone who has told us, "You should totally get your music onto Nashville (the TV show)!" or "How come you're not on NPR?" - well, here's your chance to help us make that happen.
REWARD: If we reach $45,000, ALL BACKERS will get an exclusive BONUS DOWNLOAD of a song that will NOT be included on the album!
STRETCH GOAL #2: $50,000 – TOUR SUPPORT & MUSICIANS
STRETCH GOAL #3: $55,000 & UP: MUSIC VIDEOS
For years, our fans have been asking us when we’re going to make music videos for our songs. Being children of the 80's, we know that music videos are an art form all their own, but they have always been beyond our reach. Increasingly we’re seeing more and more opportunities that require a professionally made video. Reaching this stretch goal would not only open those opportunities, it would also greatly (even virally) help grow our circle of fans and expand our reach. And let’s face it - in this day and age of YouTube, without a good video you risk becoming a quaint and irrelevant artifact of the 20th century. With your help, we’ll finally be able to collaborate with visual artists, filmmakers, directors, and flash mob dancers (hint, hint) to bring you an unforgettable video (or two) from this album!
REWARD: If we reach $55,000, every $40 & up backer will get a limited-edition "All the feelings, all the time" screen-printed hanky!
STRETCH GOAL #4: $60,000 & UP: NEW ARTISINAL MERCH
We're making this album because playing the new music fills us with a feeling of hope, possibility, and reinvention. And luckily, it seems we're not alone. Night after night, people have told us that our songs help them feel things they haven't been feeling or put into words something they’ve been unable to say. There is no higher compliment, and no better motivation for us to keep going.
We couldn’t be more excited to get into the studio and make a full-length album that honors your belief in us. And we're beyond grateful for your help in bringing it to life!
Thank you from the bottom of our little folksinging hearts.
Ty & Ingrid
Risks and challenges
Risks: The entire job description of a self-employed artist can be reduced down to one word: RISK. It's what we do. We put our hearts and words and voices out into the world every day. We drive through blinding snowstorms, on dark mountain highways, amid road-ragers to show up and publicly drop our emotional pants for perfect strangers. Or even worse, maybe for no one! All this to say, we're very familiar with this old friend, Risk. Rest assured that we've planned and dreamed and budgeted this album the best we know how, and after 20+ collective years in this business, we feel ready to do you proud.
Challenges: Artistic demonic strongholds. Indigestion. Drones falling out of the sky. Anything can happen. However, we've cleared much of our schedule this winter and spring in order to have time to foster creative energy, spend plenty of time in the studio, and handle the recording aftermath (post-production work, fulfilling your Kickstarter backer rewards, etc.). Barring any divine interventions that might slow things down, we're hoping all will be on track and this album will be in your hands before you know it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
