About this project
The Nashville Fashion is an organized alliance of like-minded professionals dedicated to building a sustainable and globally recognized fashion industry in Nashville, Tennessee through advocacy, economic development, resources and education.
What does that really mean?
Great creative communities don't just happen. Running a start up or an established business is more than a full time commitment. It often takes an organization whose sole purpose is to support that community to see an entire industry thrive. We've seen this happen all over the world and we've seen it right here in Nashville in the music industry and the tech community.
Music and Fashion go hand-in-hand. Over the last few years, Nashville's Fashion scene has absolutely exploded with talent. We are now home to over 150 growing fashion brands. This community also includes stylists, models, photographers, manufacturers, tech companies, textile companies, and many others that work in the fashion industry.
Our mission is to provide these creative companies with infrastructure, resources and support while at the same time creating needed jobs in our community. Here is how we're going to do it...

Right now, we have the opportunity to solve two problems here in middle Tennessee with one organization. The booming fashion community here can't find enough skilled workers. Often, they simply can't keep up with demand because they are under staffed. A huge hole exists in the manufacturing and skilled sewing trade here.
In conjunction with that need, there is also a large under worked and refugee population in Nashville looking for new skills, steady income and affordable housing. We have already worked with organizations like The Housing fund and Catholic Charities of Tennessee to build a sewing certificate program that has 4 simple goals:
1. Train an underserved population, providing them with a valuable new skill
2. Connect our fashion brands in need with these workers for full time employment
3. Provide career opportunities in a creative environment paying a living wage
4. Provide access to affordable housing grants.
We want to support our community and help this new crop of fashion entrepreneurs grow in Nashville without having to turn to New York or Los Angeles for support.
We have four of these trained sewers now employed at Omega Apparel. That took nearly two years of planning and effort. Imagine what we can do, and how much faster we can move, if we can establish a full time team dedicated to this mission?
We can change everything.
In order to fully realize this vision, we need to raise money. We need a financial foundation to build a team. Once we can establish a fully dedicated force to focus on the mission of the NFA, we can move full speed ahead on building resource pools such as business services and manufacturing.
We can take the next steps towards providing a physical co-op location in Nashville where our start up fashion brands can connect with other people in their community, learn from mentors and access equipment they may not otherwise be able to afford.
In addition to this, we can build a mentorship network so Nashville's fashion entrepreneurs can develop the business skills needed to grow scalable companies.
New Jobs + Expanding Nashville companies = Economic Development

NEW REWARD ALERT!
We've teamed up with the great crew at Shaveface to produce a limited run of their denim Strop with the letters "NASH" imprinted right into the leather. There are only 25 of these, so get 'em while their hot!
What's a Strop by Shaveface?
A take on the classic leather strop for sharpening straight razors, Shaveface have invented a denim Strop designed to re-align the blades of your disposable razor. The beauties save you money, save the planet by lowering razor waste and save your skin!
Risks and challenges
We are aware with any launch of a new business or non-profit such as ourselves, there can be challenges. We fully anticipate shipping all our rewards in June of 2015 but a manufacturing delay we cannot currently predict could push that back to July.
The images used to represent our reward products are mock ups of what the finished prints will look like. While they are designed to be accurate representations, there will be small differences in the final products.
After two full years in the making, we have never been more ready to deliver on the promise and ambition of the NFA. Let's do it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
