About this project
Motus has many different opportunities to bring awareness and awesomeness to a place or a project here in Indy and beyond. While we love to scrape our knees, bloody our toes and test the limits of our pain tolerance with various surfaces and substances, a portable stage would make our site specific dreams so much less grueling.
Check us out:
Portable stages cost upwards of $10,000 for a 20'x30' stage. (Quote from stagedepot.com) That is before covering it with a non-slip "Marley" surface or getting a portable sound system or professional lighting. We thought we would go with a interlocking portable dance floor. We were quoted $3000 at http://www.bigfloors.com/product-category/dance-event-flooring/dance-flooring-dance-event-flooring/
- Interlocking foam tiles for shock absorption and injury prevention estimated at $600
- The non-slip "marley" dance surface plus the tape needed to install comes in around $2000. http://www.harlequinfloors.com/us/en/
- A simple professional lighting package estimated at $1000
- A portable PA sound system at $1000.
- $400 for 10x10 tent to cover the sound and light boards and a few odds and ends like cords, bulbs, gels and clips.
- $300 budget to cover our rewards expenses
- Total project budget: $8300.
Our stretch goal: $10,000: Where will they sit? Things that we left out of the budget for our portable stage project are folding chairs for audience and a computer that would make it easier to run both lights and sound together. It is possible that the audience may not sit for some performance venues, like an art installation. We can always ask people to bring chairs and blankets and create their own seating at outdoor sites. The computer can come when we have our first portable stage show and it is a wild success. Until then we will risk running the show manually. If you feel like giving so generously that we overshoot our goal we will be more than happy to get that now.

Risks and challenges
This whole project is about overcoming obstacles... the obstacles of bringing performance to the people that don't have access to this kind of art and culture... removing the obstacles that prevent that kind of exposure. We are sure that we will have new challenges. One may be recruiting and training the help needed to transport and set up the equipment, as well as run the technology. We will also have to jump a few hurdles with issues of access, permits and other red tape that comes with public spaces. We are actually hoping for other challenges like, another performance organization would like to borrow our equipment but an individual artist would also like to use it on the same day. That challenge might indicate that our little project is having a big impact on the art and culture of our community.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
