Shiny wallpapers. Thankee for being thoughtful enough to have non-logo versions. Seen some places where they didn't care enough for that and ruined perfectly good art, heartbreaking.
C'mon folks! 222 of you thought a motorcycle samurai RPG that uses playing card mechanics was worth it... why have only 80 thought playing cards featuring motorcycle samurai for use when playing aforementioned RPG is a worthy investment?
Get the cards to go with the game! Infuse your game with inspiring art! 2 decks of awesome cards are a good enough reason... 2 decks of awesome cards that match the game you're playing is, simply put, more than awesome.
There's also a new set of biker-themed games from Deep Silver coming out soon. I've been pretty excited. This is apparently a good time for biker warfare!
That's good to hear! There are some final mechanics revisions in the final draft now, so hopefully future attempts at group conversion will go much smoother post-launch.
Awesome Spider Jerusalem cosplay avatar there, Nathanael! I'm glad to hear the con went well and wonder how many minds were blown by the concept of Motobushido.
On my end I've run MB a bit with some of the crew from my usual gaming table, and while it took a little for things to click, I think they enjoyed the hell outta it.
Just left a demo at Gamestorm with Nathanael as Sensai... This game is even better than you think it is! Give it a shot, you shouldn't be disappointed.
I'm going to wait a few months, and then possibly run the cards as their own entire project. Smaller target, and probably even a shorter run. Means I'll have to come up with some new reward ideas, too.
But right now, I just wanna focus on the book and make it awesome =)
I'm handing that on a case by case basis. I won't devalue any of the rewards on the project by shamelessly extending all funding beyond the agreed-upon limit. BUT I did have some potential backers who tried to pledge during the Amazon Payments outage earlier, that I haven't yet heard back from. Anyone interested can contact me privately either on here, through my blog, or on Facebook or Google Plus.
Yeah I just noticed that. What the heck? If it doesn't let you do it before the project ends, message me privately and we'll work something out. That's just not cool. I wish they'd extend the backer time by a few hours or such to compensate.
Hey, not to tell you how to do your job, but you may want to put the links to your blog posts on the front page. Not everyone bothers to read through the updates.
As a recent pledge and artist as well I would love to contribute an image or two to the finished rule book. Examples of my work can be found at my website http://www.fallensunasylum.org Let me know if you are interested. Looking forward to the game. And congrats on successful funding.
I tell you what. If someone actually backs that level, I'll totally work up a, uh, Interplanetary Rodent Motorcycle Squad version of things and release it to everyone.
Just noticed the "Special" funding levels and, basically, PLEASE TELL ME THERE WILL BE INFORMATION ON HOW TO BE BIKER MICE FROM MARS. Or, you know, anthropomorphic rodent motorcycle enthusiasts from the fourth planet.
Adrian, thanks for the link to Tichu. I've never seen this game before, but it looks pretty great.
Motobushido requires twp decks of cards, each with the jokers in. I imagine the Tichu deck's special cards could be used as Jokers. In Motobushido, the Jokers function as a random pacing mechanic, which can escalate background threat in the scenario. More of them could create quite a dangerous game, indeed =)
Oh and if people are looking for the playing cards that are shown, they are the Japan - Double Deck Playing Cards by Piatnik. You can find them on Amazon (and other places). I have a set of them myself, which was a clear message that I had to pledge. But I would love to see us hit the custom cards stretch goal as well!
Absolutely fantastic looking game! I’m very excited for this.
Now please tell me there is a skill/chapter/anything called ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Mayhem’ in here! ;)
Thought I'd clue you and the other backers into a good set of thematic cards in-case that stretch goal isn't hit.
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/215/tichu This is a card game that comes with two asian themed decks of near standard playing cards. The decks are the standard 13 ranks in 4 suits, plus 4 special cards.
The four special cards are the Sparrow/Mah-jong, the dog, the phoenix, and the dragon.
The sparrow is the only 1 in the deck (there are aces, they are just always considered high). It gives you the right to lead the hand. You don't actually have to play it first, but it does give you first play. When you do play it you get to make a wish, and as soon as someone can play the wished for card (you can only wish for a rank, and not special cards) they have to.
The dog can be played when you have the lead for a trick, and gives the lead to your partner instead.
The phoenix is a wild card. When played as part of a hand it can be whatever you want. When played as single it is one half higher than the prior played card (if your opponent played an 8, and you played the phoenix it'd be 8.5). This works on everything but the dragon.
The dragon is simply the highest single.
I'd love to see you add rules for these, and will probably come up with some of my own if you don't.
Anyway...thought people might want to know it was out there.
Wait, is there any way that you get more cards in the duel? Because otherwise it seems that the player that plays the first card will always lose, because they will run out of cards first.
It's not clear whether the deluxe version of the book is in color or not. The white book being named such and called out for it's grey-scale implies that the deluxe is color, but that's not explicitly stated anywhere that i can see.
Thanks, Evan! More updates on system are in the works, most definitely. I'm actually going to be posting a very, very, VERY simplified "do this right now" style of quick intro tomorrow or at least some day later this week. It will skip 90% of the strategies and nuances, in favor of quickly laying down the dynamic.
I admit: the system is harder to explain in words than in action. To that extent I'm working on a plan for a demo video. We've got a good number of playtest sessions coming up, and I'm going to try and arrange for a camera to record some of the action.
Use this space to cheer the creator along, and talk to your fellow backers.
