For those of you who don't know me, I'm a New England-raised, Minneapolis-based banjo-playing, marathon-running songwriter, DJ and music cheerleader. And I'm doing a Kickstarter to help make my long overdue album a reality!
Since releasing my first Mother Banjo album 10 years ago, I have put out a new album every other year...until now. It's now been 5 years since I recorded The Devil Hasn't Won with my 5-piece band. It was my most successful project yet and led us to win several band contests and getting lots of great gigs at festivals, conferences and theaters across the country.
With all that touring and also having several exciting things happening in my personal life (running the nonprofit Minnesota Music Coalition, teaching music business classes and getting married!), I have struggled to carve out the time to write and record. But with your help, it's finally happening this year! I've enlisted my friends at Beehive Productions out of Saranac Lake, New York to come out to Minnesota to record my new full-length album in March. Together, with members of my band--Ben Cook-Feltz, Dan Gaarder, Eric Paulson, Jim Parker--we'll be recording and shooting video on the stage of an old historic theater, full of ghosts and great acoustics. This is definitely going to be my most personal album to date so this organic performance setting will be the perfect space to capture these songs. You're going to hear songs I've played a lot live as well as some new originals that I'm extremely proud of. It's been a very long time coming, and I can't wait to share these songs with you.
With your support, I know we can cover the significant costs of recording, mixing, mastering and video production for this new album--my most ambitious project yet. There are lots of ways to support this Kickstarter. You can simply pre-order the album and get it delivered digitally and/or via autographed CD. Or, if you want to give a little extra, you can get other cool thank-you gifts like a special mix CD of my favorite artists, a private listening party at Wild Sound Studio, a performance in your home or my new MoJo Cocktail Recipe Book!
Thank you for for supporting my music and for your consideration of this project. Without your support, I simply would not be doing this. By coming to live shows, spreading the word online and buying albums, you have enabled me to create and share my music--my first true love. I am so grateful and can't wait to make this record with you this year!
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge for this album project has been for me to schedule the time to write and record. Well, the writing is done, and the recording is scheduled so we've overcome the two biggest obstacles...other than funding. Your support will mean we keep this project on track and ready for release this fall!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
