Initially, the SmartRing will ship with support Android® and IOS enabled devices (e.g iPhone®) with calls, text messages, email, and calendar notification. Here is the basic functionality of the SmartRing in action shown at IFA Electronic show in Germany. Of course, the final version will not just tell you there is a text message but notify you who it is from and show the text message on the screen.
Risiken und Herausforderungen
As with any pioneering projects, come risks and challenges. With this SmartRing, came one of the hardest challenges yet: to create a ring small enough to be stylish and durable, but filled with innovative features. We strive to create the best for our customers, which also mean we require the best materials to make this ring. The product had to be lightweight enough to wear, yet stylish enough where it is capable of hiding such high tech technology. Through multiple failed attempts and a lot of testing on our end, we’re finally able to create one of the most innovative product yet.
SUPPLY CHAIN AND LOGISTICS
We have access to high-volume material suppliers that will help ensure we can ramp up production quickly. Nonetheless all consumer electronics projects encounter some risk when transitioning production from alpha to finished units. We believe we've minimized this risk for the MOTA SmartRing by having constructed and tested prototypes and pre-alpha production units for adherence to design spec, reliability, and ability to be manufacturable in high volumes. We also believe that the know-how we've gained from our history of 15 years of high-volume manufacturing of accessories for mobile and other consumer devices will minimize this risk.
We have established relationships with multi-modal (land, sea, air) shipping companies as well as with major consumer electronics distributors and do not consider shipping and distribution as special challenges, wherever you are located. We heard your comments and have been able to provide Free Shipping for US Domestic and flat-rate shipping for international shipments. Keep in mind that some countries may have custom restrictions which you may have to check.
INJECTION MOLDING AND PRINT HEADS
We have trusted long-term relationships with parts vendors for all the parts of the MOTA SmartRing. Just to be safe, we will also secure additional backup vendors for key parts so we don't depend on only one supplier.
ENGINEERING TEAM
We've assembled a team of the best and brightest designers and engineers, from experts in ASICS, Bluetooth®, PCB, and mobile OS to product usability, safety, and human engineering. We've tested our prototype and paths to Six Sigma standards. As part of this process we will be continuing with testing but we won't rest until we ensure the MOTA SmartRing is flawless.

Our current plan is to create one or two ring sizes (e.g. small and large) and provide user-changeable interior pieces to adjust the ring's shank (similar concept as the Bluetooth ear pieces). This way a perfect fit can be made.

With our current prototype, depending on usage, battery can last between 1-3 days. MOTA SmartRing can be charged using most QI wireless charging stations.

Once the project is funded and we are close to finalizing orders, you'll be receiving a survey email where you can specify your preferred color. To ensure a timely delivery, if you do not specify a color, the black SmartRing will be shipped.
