A Couple of projects on Kickstarter we recommend you check out...

Hey MyM community!

As we start post on our film we are constantly reminded that we wouldn't be at this point in the creative process if it weren't for your critical and inspirational support.  We are so grateful to you!  Many, many have taken note of the power of community because of our kickstarter campaign and the incredible rally behind it.  Love that!

In this same vain there are two KS campaigns we urge you to support as they approach the end of their efforts to bring their stories to audiences like you.

Native/Indigenous filmmaker Andrew Okpeaha MacLean is attempting to release his award-winning film on his own terms. He's looking to self-distribute his beautiful, coming of age film about two Inuit youth growing up in Northern Alaska to a wider audience.  Check out his campaign and you'll see for yourself why MyM's team supports it and hopes he makes his goal...who knows, MyM might be going down that same path! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/andrewmaclean/on-the-ice-the-movie

Nekisa Cooper, producer of Pariah (kiss ass film by fellow queer woman of color filmmaker Dee Rees), is producing a film, Five Nights in Maine, that is currently looking to raise funds for production. They are 11 days away from making their goal. MyM recommends you check it out. The director Maris Curran has a hot creative team supporting her.  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/306585268/five-nights-in-maine-an-independent-film-by-maris

And if you're strapped for cash than take a moment to post it on your social media networks so word can spread like wildfire...

MyM hopes that by supporting other projects like these that we can further build our audiences...after all power lies in community and our community can benefit from growing!

Wish us luck as we edit ;-)

A Warm Hello from Team MyM

Hello folks,

We are still recovering from a wonderful and exhausting shoot, and going straight into post-production.

We have not forgotten any of you or your support, but we are still working on organizing and gathering our rewards to send out to all 888 of you! Please be patient, as this may take some time.

While you wait, check out another project from a fellow filmmaker and huge supporter of MyM:

MIL GRACIAS for your support and patience, and don't forget to check out our Facebook page, with some fantastic behind the scenes photos.

Abrazos,

Team MyM

We did it!

Dearest MyM community,

Thanks to all of you we can say, "It's a wrap!!"  We did it! We shot Mosquita y Mari over a course of 18 days!  This journey has been nothing less than miraculous.  Less than 3 months ago the making of MyM felt distant and now we're moving on to post production.

We'll be sure to keep all of you in the loop as to when we will have a premiere. Fingers crossed 2012 you will get to witness a film you helped make happen!  Crazy, right?!!

The journey continues...

Connections in southeast LA???

Hola MyM community!

In case you haven't heard MyM goes into production in a WEEK!! Yes, thanks to all of you. As with any indie project we have been working hard to stretch every dollar we made on our kickstarter campaign.  But along the way we have encounter resistance.  In order to keep this film as authentic as possible we are trying to film on Pacific Ave and in certain shops located in and around the southeast LA area(HP, SOuthgate, Maywood, Bell).  Since most shop owners don't know who we are they tend to close the doors on us. We understand. Not everyday you get a group of young filmmakers knocking on your door asking to film in your store. So we figure we might have more success if we find people who personally know people that are business owners or employees of businesses where the boss is open. So we turn to you again for help. This is what is outstanding on our list of locations:

-pawn shop or jewelry store (to film an EXTREMELY SHORT scene)

-a medium size market ( 1 day of shooting)

-arcade (2 VERY SHORT SCENES.)

If you have any relationship to these type of businesses in the southeast LA area, PLEASE respond to this email or email aurora at aurog2004@yahoo.com

gracias y wish us LUCK!!
