Defend a fantastic island world from the Undead – hexagon by hexagon, turn by turn!
While developer Mosaic Mask Studio may be new to the game industry, the people behind the Dukes of War project are not. Members of our team have (among others) worked on these games:
- ANNO 1404
- ANNO 1701
- Shadowrun Online
- Tank Operations - European Campaign
- The Settlers 7
- Pirates of Black Cove
- A New Beginning
- Night of the Rabbit
Bringing together all this experience in making games, we now strive to raise the bar for TBS gaming fun with the creation of Dukes of War!
Dukes of War is a turn-based strategy game in a fantasy setting, leveling up the timeless fun of classics like Panzer General, Battle Isle or Heroes of Might and Magic by featuring over 90 unique units, each with their own special ability. Use your tactical skills to defeat the Undead wherever you are – with intuitive controls on your iOS and Android mobile devices. Finally, experience high replay value by choosing from two distinct armies (Knights or Barbarians) as well as by recruiting mighty heroes in the course of a branching story.
It had seemed like the time for heroes was over after Prince Desmond lost his life in the Last Battle trying to overturn King Eldric II. His treason led to the dismissal of all other Dukes, as they were no longer trusted, no matter how bravely they served the King before. Now however, a new threat has risen – from the dead. And only the Dukes of War and their armies can stop these hellish creatures. Will you manage to fight off hordes of monstrous enemies and defeat the greater evil controlling them?
- Classic turn-based strategy (TBS) with new gameplay features for iOS and Android
- Over 90 unique units and 2 completely different Dukes as avatars
- Each unit has its own special ability and can be upgraded twice. Decide which upgrades you are researching for your troops
- The Duke you choose is part of the game and playable as a single powerful unit
- Beautiful Soundtrack by Jonathan vd Wijngaarden
- Choose between different paths and discover new maps in the next playthrough
- Find and recruit mighty heroes to fight for your cause
- Experience beautifully animated 2D graphics and 3 different islands/settings: Dark Woods, Eternal Ice and Volcano Island
- Conquer and defend impressive buildings
- Explore the map to find gold, allies and artifacts

The noble knight Algovan
Despite the Royal Blood running through his veins, Algovan never strived for power. As one of the Dukes, leaders of the Kings armies, he was a loyal servant to King Eldric II. His troops honored Algovan with the nickname The Noble, for his bravery on the battlefield and his commitment to them. In the Last Battle he helped defeat the former Duke Desmond who tried to overthrow King Eldric II. But how was Algovan rewarded for his efforts? Like all other Dukes he was no longer trusted and dismissed from the royal service – all because of Desmond's treason! Still, it is said that Algovan never questioned his loyalty to the King and is still waiting for a chance to redeem himself.
Gormur the mighty Barbarian
Far away from the island world of Dukes of War Gormur was raised in a tribe of fierce warriors who were as merciless as the cold and wild lands they inhabited. Always looking for a new battle, Gormur crossed the seas with his army to serve King Eldric II as a Duke. When Desmond tried to take the crown, Gormur helped counter the insurgency. He was thus reverently called “the Butcher” and praised in many songs and tales. But there were enemies even Gormur was not able to fight – the intrigues convincing King Eldric II to dismiss all Dukes from their service due to Desmond's treason! No wonder many say that Gormur awaits eagerly to finally slay real foes again......

Successfully reaching our Kickstarter goal of 35.000 £ will first of all allow us to finish the development of Dukes of War in the way and scope that we envision it. Of course, this also means that we will be able to independently publish the game for iOS and Android. The remaining twenty-five percent then will be split to arrange for the production and shipping of the variety of rewards we offer our backers as well as to pay Kickstarter and additional fees.
*Except the Reward "Dukes of War Edition"!
However, our plans for this campaign do not end with a successful funding of our original Kickstarter goal: If the total backings will exceed 35.000 £, we will introduce stretch goals in order to offer you an even more enhanced experience of playing Dukes of War! Your contributions may, for example, allow us to integrate more character animations, additional cool features into the game or to release even more content – from maps to units to maybe even whole new factions on more platforms...
As already mentioned above, we believe that turn-based strategy makes for a timeless gaming fun experience which we want to enhance with new features and a bigger scope made possible by current mobile devices. We already invested countless hours and plenty of our financial resources to come so far as to present you with the high quality material on this Kickstarter campaign site. Now, however, we need your help to be able to finish the development of the game on our own terms – that means not being shackled creatively by the restrictions imposed by a publisher. This will give us the opportunity to realize the scope, the unique features and the balanced gameplay we envisioned for the game.
Your contributions furthermore will hopefully enable us to prepare for entering the next levels for the game as well – by providing new stories, units and maps which will draw you even deeper into the fantastic island world and the challenging great battles of Dukes of War!
Our thanks go to our families and loved ones for their continuing support and motivation …
Last but not least, special thanks to XineLoyd multimedia productions, who were responsible for the Kickstarter Video. You made a great job guys! http://www.xineloyd.de/index2.html
Risks and challenges
Having scrolled down so far, you hopefully have an impression by now of how much effort we already put into the development of Dukes of War. While building upon this work, we still have to and want to refine all aspects of the game. Most importantly, we strive to arrive at a challenging yet fun gameplay which carefully balances the special abilities of all units – making sure that winning or losing a game depends on your own tactical skills. Finding such a balance is a difficult and complex task. It not only needs time but also may require continuous improvements even after the release of the game, which we are determined to provide. However, given our passion for the turn-based strategy genre and a clear vision of how the game should look and feel like, we are confident that in the end we will be able to create a unique experience. One that will consume your time as well - yet in a fun way…Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
