A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Teeny Teethers are geometric rubber toys that help soothe teething gums, foster creative play, and look beautiful in the home.
I became a parent, I quickly realized that the market was full of poorly designed baby products made out of low-quality materials that over-promised and under-delivered. I was soon tripping over piles of them, and my home slowly became a less enjoyable space to live
in. As I matured as a parent, I came to understand that there were only a handful of
products that kids really need and started to become more discerning with the
products I brought into my home. As a product designer, I started to think
about these modern essentials and how I could design products for families that
delight little ones but also inspire parents.
When my daughter Bea started teething, I bought a dozen teether toys to help alleviate her
pain, from bananas, to fancy rings, to colorful keys. They all
did a decent job and distracted her for a few minutes at a time, and there were a few design
elements that made some more successful than others, but I learned that baby
Bea had no affinity for character shapes, garish colors, or complicated shapes.
What Bea needed was something that she could
hold onto by herself. Babies' hands are tiny and they naturally grip with their whole fist, which is why they love grabbing and holding onto your
She needed something soft to chew on. Rubbing and gnawing on something soft helps massage and soothe gums that teeth are trying to poke through.
She also needed something that could reach all the way to problem areas, the canines and especially those pesky molars in the back.
I also wanted more from a simple teether.
The teething process happens in short phases, and I wanted a toy that could last through these phases but also grow with her into her childhood.
Lastly, I believed that these toys didn’t
have to look gimmicky. I wanted something that I didn’t have to hide
inside a basket out of sight. The garish colors and silly shapes of most baby toys made my house look cluttered and messy. Could I design something
that can complement my home?
Grippy. Easy to grab for teeny fingers.
Soothing. Made out of soft rubber to massage painful gums.
Safe. Manufactured in Portland, Oregon out of FDA-approved medical grade material.
Simple. Easy to clean.
Enduring. Basic geometric shapes that allow for creative play.
Modern. Simple shapes in beautiful colors.
I designed these shapes specifically for tiny, uncoordinated hands, so they're easy to hold with one or two hands. Teeny Teethers allow babies to practice their gross and fine motor skills and the skeletal structures encourage independent, interactive play.
Made out of soft rubber, Teeny Teethers are easy on swollen and painful gums. The flexible rubber shapes allow babies to reach every part of their mouths. Teeny Teethers can also be refrigerated or frozen for additional relief.
Easy to rinse and toss in the dishwasher, with no moving parts or little crevices for germs to hang out in. Easy to clip onto a baby bag for travel, or snap a tether onto so it doesn't fall on the floor. Simple functionality.
Made out of the same FDA-approved rubber as baby bottle nipples, Teeny Teethers are BPA and vinyl-free, and they can be sanitized in boiling water. Manufactured locally, here in the USA. You can be assured that the materials are non-toxic and our quality inspection is rigorous.
These basic geometric shapes are timeless. I designed not just for teething babies, but for continued imaginative exploration beyond the teething phases. The simplicity and flexibility of the shapes give kids' imaginations room to invent, discover, and create stories.
The colors are bright enough to delight little ones but sophisticated enough for adult sensibilities, and the simple shapes are pleasing for all ages. Teeny Teethers are beautiful toys that you don't have to shove out of sight.
Your support is crucial to making this happen! I've already spent countless hours on design and research, as well as thousands of dollars of my own savings to develop and play-test the prototypes.
By being a backer, you're helping fund and support:
Tooling All of the funding will go towards the steel tooling to make mass production possible. Teeny Teethers are made out of a soft durometer rubber. Durometer rubber requires a production process called injection molding using expensive steel molds.
First Run Once we have the molds, we can purchase the raw materials and work with our local manufacturer to start our first full production.
The Minimoon Philosophy. Families need better products because what we bring into our home matters. We hope this is just the beginning of a line of modern products that delight little minds and inspire parents.
We want to get Teeny Teethers to backers as soon as possible but production takes time. We are confident that we can deliver by October 2017.
Hello! Minimoon is created by, me, Beverly Moon. This is my second Kickstarter campaign. My first one, Moon Contact Lens Case, was successfully funded 6 years ago, and I was able to fulfill all the initial orders on time, so I know how Kickstarter works and have a track record of timely delivery of products to my backers.
Industrial Designer at heart, Creative Director by trade. I am passionate about designing products to enhance our everyday. I appreciate the simple things in life. And I’m curious about the everyday objects that surround us and define our worlds.
My life revolves around my family now. I find many baby and kid products that could be designed with a little more thought for modern parents. Launching Teeny Teethers and Minimoon is just the beginning of delighting little minds and inspiring parents!

Risks and challenges
As a seasoned product designer, I understand that developing products can encounter unplanned obstacles along the way, such as manufacturing processes and quality issues. The reason we need your support is because we can't start production without these steel molds. Steel molds can take a few months to make and ship, but we've planned accordingly to ensure that you get an accurate date of shipment. We are also in close partnership with our local manufacturer so issues can be addressed immediately.
In the event that things don’t go quite as planned, we promise to update our backers and do everything in our power to get things back on track.
You're someone who appreciates simple, meaningful design and wants to give a high five push to a brand that champions this philosophy. Your contribution helps move Minimoon forward. We’ll keep you posted on our progress and give you our virtual shout out.
A super set for you to keep or to share. Make a giant tower or share the love of basic geometry with friends and families. Great as gifts for new parents or stocking stuffers for your favorite nieces and nephews.
