The Songs From the Science Frontier CD is coming in November 2010! You can order your copy now at: http://www.montyharper.com
"Songs From the Science Frontier" is about connecting kids (ages 8-12) with science. The twelve songs I'm recording for this CD are unique because most of them focus on current scientific research happening right here in Stillwater Oklahoma. Specific topics include phototaxic bacteria, stress hormones, wheat genomics, bacterial biofilms, bat taxonomy, x-ray crystallography, and luminescence dating! The deeper messages are that science is an ongoing process done by real people. Science is relevant, important, accessible, and cool!

History and Future Plans
Two years ago I started "Born to Do Science," a monthly live event at the local public library. In each program I help scientists present their work to kids in 3rd-5th grade. Most of the songs I'm recording were originally written as part of this program.
I've received so much support and encouragement in response to "Born to Do Science" that I really think I'm onto something important. There are many ways I hope to expand this idea to reach more kids more effectively.
This CD is just the first step. Having the songs in hand will help me communicate my ideas and leverage funding to connect more kids with science!
About the Music
The CD will be produced by Chris Wiser of The Sugar Free Allstars, a local band who've made a pretty big name for themselves in the national Kindie music scene.
The sound will be influenced by the likes of The Beatles, The Kinks, and They Might Be Giants. Chris describes his own sound as "a unique blend of New Orleans funk, Memphis soul and Hammond organ-drenched gospel all wrapped up in a rock and roll package."
I'm confident that Chris will help me create a stellar CD that parents and kids will want to hear over and over again! Of course it does take a lot of money to make a great sounding recording, so I hope you'll back this project!
