Looks like we're not going to make it! Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word and to all my backers! Your efforts will not go to waste! I will continue to work on finding a way to make this CD! To follow progress please visit my website!
Some fun updates to listen to while you browse. Feel free to share!
Science is AWESOME!!
I write songs that convey what I find awesome about science: the questions, the methods, the passion, dedication, and creativity of the people who do it. My inspiration comes from speaking directly with scientists about their latest research projects.
Here's a song from my first science CD to show you what I mean:
Songs From the Science Frontier
In 2010, I ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund Songs From the Science Frontier. The songs for this project came from my Born to Do Science program, a series of live events in which I helped scientists explain their research to 3rd - 8th graders.
The CD was an experiment to see whether kids would appreciate challenging songs about scientific research. Response has been overwhelmingly positive! Kids love it and adults love it even more!
You can get a download of this CD right away with your pledge of $5 or more!
The Current Project
Since then I've written more than enough new songs for a follow-up CD! I'm excited about the new songs and can't wait to get them recorded so you can hear them in their full glory! I have songs about particle physics, the human brain, photosynthesis, the nature of love, and many more fascinating, important topics! I've been performing them in my video blog, to give you an idea what they're like:
Please Help Me Make Awesome Music for Awesome Science!
I need to hire a producer, studio engineer, and professional musicians to bring these songs to life, so they can go out into the world and help kids connect with science awesomeness!
Chris Wiser of the nationally renowned children's band the Sugar Free Allstars produced my first science CD. He's on board for this new project as well and I can't wait to work with him to create more funky pop/rock recordings that will appeal to kids and parents alike.
"Fizz Boom Read!" - Connecting With Kids Through Public Libraries
Public libraries throughout the U.S. will be celebrating science with their "Fizz Boom Read" summer programs this year! A perfect fit! I'll include a "Fizz Boom Read" song on my new CD, and you can help supply copies to the libraries for use with their programs!
Your pledge of $30 or more will purchase (in addition to other rewards) two copies of the new CD, one for you, and one for your local public library.
I'm excited to offer some really fun rewards this time around! Have me come to your classroom! Dedicate a song to your favorite scientist! Put your kid's voice on the CD itself! Even throw a cream pie in my face! Here's a guide to help you browse. I've grouped your options into easy to grok categories, and referenced each reward with a number to help you find it on the right...
Don't see the reward you were hoping for? Let me know! I'll consider adding it!
Three years ago we ended my first Kickstarter campaign on my birthday, and my wife Lisa smooshed a chocolate cake in my face live online, as promised to our backers, as a celebration for reaching our goal!
This year we will celebrate with cream pies!
On Friday December 13 from 5-7 Central, please join us online for the watch party to find out whether we reach our goal. If we do, I'll get smooshed with cream pies - possibly one with your name on it!
One of our rewards is an invitation for two to the party here in Stillwater, Oklahoma. If you can be here in person, you'll get pizza and if we get funded, you may smoosh a cream pie in my face!
If you can't be here in person, you can still purchase a virtual cream pie, then tune in and watch someone else thank you profusely for the opportunity, and smoosh a pie on your behalf!
If we reach our $10,000 goal, I'll record a great CD for you with 10 science songs. However, with $15,000 I could deliver an even better CD with a richer more varied sound and two additional songs!!
I'd also love to come to your city to perform! If we raise enough extra cash, I'll visit the cities with the most backers as part of my CD release tour.
And, as a thank-you for bringing this CD into the world, I'd love to allow you to share it with the world. The more money we raise the more sharing I will enable.
Risks and challenges
Of course recording a CD is always a challenge, but this is the second time around, with the same crew that recorded Songs From the Science Frontier in 2010. I'll be engaging competent professional studio musicians who work quickly and deliver excellence. We have a detailed budget worked out to make sure we'll have money set aside for fulfilling all orders.
The biggest risk in terms of fulfilling promises is getting CDs out in time for libraries to use them with summer reading programs. Any major unforeseen delay (such as illness) could cause the pre-release delivery date for the CD to be pushed back until after summer.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
