NEW STRETCH GOAL $80,000 - 2/25/2013
New Stretch Goal $80,000 and ALL watches will include sapphire crystal (glass) on the front and back of the watch rather than using sapphire coated mineral crystals! I received a comment from a backer, and after giving it some good thought, we have chosen to lower the stretch goal. My response to his comment can be viewed on the Comments page of this project, or you can read it here in quotes.
"Hi Alexey, Thank you so much for your thoughts. It's just not affordable to have the sapphire crystals on the watches unless we hit that $100,000 goal, so then we decided to offer the individual choice to people. The backing has really stagnated for sure lately, but everything will still be great with this project! :-)
Okay, after giving this some additional thought, we will choose to take the risk of offering this stretch goal of sapphire crystals on all watches if we hit $80,000 with the hopes that this will encourage enough backers to get involved to hopefully drive us up to the $100,000 mark. If we don't hit the $100,000 mark, we will be okay with the project, but will need to rely more on referrals and word of mouth and reviews and such after the kickstarter campaign is over in order to achieve benefit from having offered the lower stretch goal of $80,000 in order to achieve the sapphire crystals for everybody. I hope this makes sense for everybody who reads this. So it's set. New Stretch Goal $80,000 and ALL watches will include sapphire crystal (glass) on the front and back of the watch rather than using sapphire coated mineral crystals. Okay now let's see what happens. :-) Thanks, again for the thought!"

Each Montrex watch comes with a 2 year International Warranty. :-)
This is a fun, exciting project on which we've been working for awhile. We hope this project will become one of the biggest watch projects in the history of Kickstarter. You cannot find watches like these anywhere else in the world. In this project, you will be able to choose the color of the watch face... black, grey, or white. Everybody gets to decide face (dial) color for his / her individual watch or watches during the assembly process.
Please notice that the "Calendar" Montrex timepiece has 3 subdials on it. The Montrex "Regulator" only has 1 subdial. This will help you to tell the difference when are watching the video or looking at the photos.
We've designed a great mechanism called the "resonance carousel." We have added it to automatic watch movements with Swiss Lever Escapements and it is our belief that the resonating balance wheel sitting directly below the resonance carousel helps the mechanism keep better time.
Please help us get the word out by Liking and also by Sharing this project on facebook, twitter, etc. as often as you feel comfortable. Facebook charges a very small fee to 'promote' anything you like or share. Please help us take this viral by using that 'promote' feature on facebook. It will really help. We'll be doing the same. Your help with Social Networking will be very beneficial to the success of this project.
Funding will be used for the completion of the websites, production of the watch cases and accompanying materials including the FOB, paperwork, instruction manuals, boxes, etc.
The Montrex Watches use an open source Suisse movement. A number of companies in Switzerland are now providing movements that are officially Swiss Made meaning that 50% of the value of the components are manufactured in Switzerland and that finally assembly of the movement is performed in Switzerland. Many of these movements contain parts that have been produced in Asian countries, but meet the criteria to be called Swiss Made.
This watch, however, cannot and should not be called Swiss Made because the resonance carousel is added later in the USA and the final assembly of the Montrex Watches is performed in the USA (by us). For a watch to be called Swiss Made, it must contain a Swiss movement (which this watch contains) and also final assembly must be performed in Switzerland (this watch is not).
The Montrex Watches have a thick gasket inside the caseback and a gasketed screw down crown to provide water resistance that We've pressure tested to 100m.
The movement in the Montrex Watches contains ruby cabochons which are friction bearings that don't wear when repeatedly rubbed by pinions. They are also cupped so that a small droplet of oil can be placed into the cups of the jewels to help further reduce friction.
Hope this helps explain it a little more. Thank you.
Specification of Montrex Watches:
1) 28,800 bph
2) 5 positioning testing +6/-4 (COSC spec, no cert as they are not tested)
3) 100 m pressure tested
4) 29 rubies for the Regulator and 24 rubies for the the Calendar
5) hack seconds for the Regulator - non-hacking for the Calendar
6) Leather strap with double folding deployant buckle (butterfly buckle)
7) Calendar has 2 time zones, day, date, and month. Regulator has hours on subdial at 12:00 position.
8) open source suisse movement with USA modification (resonance carousel)
9) 40 hr power reserve
If this project hits the $100,000 pledge mark, we will use sapphire crystals as the 'glass' on the front and back of these watches. Many people have suggested that they would like sapphire, and we agree. Let's do what we can to make this happen! A written assurance of the sapphire crystals will be included on your Certificate of Authenticity for appraisal purposes. So please help us do what we can to ensure that we achieve this goal! :-)
Risks and challenges
We have many movements already assembled and we have the vendor relationships to be able to complete these watches and build many more as well. There are risks that shipment of watch cases from the vendor could be lost or stolen, but that risk is very small. It is possible, but not probable that we could become ill, but we're in good health. The thing about which we are most afraid is that there might not be a market for these watches. Maybe those who tell us they are beautiful and amazing are just being nice. We hope we aren't fooling ourselves. Other things that we aren't able to foresee could cause delays in the project, but we don't anticipate that anything is beyond our control. We are very proud of our new Montrex Watches. The hardest part of this project of course will be the manufacturing process. There will be things that will come up, and we'll have to solve those issues. It could be anything... tools breaking, equipment malfunctioning, etc. There will be some problems, guaranteed, but we believe that we have the experience and understanding of the processes to handle any problems thrown at us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
