Hello all! My name is Monte Pittman and I'm based out of Los Angeles.
I'm an independant artist making my upcoming album (tentatively titled "Pain, Love & Destiny") on my own. Some of my friends have strongly suggested using Kickstarter as they have been successful with it themselves. Not only will this opportunity of raising money from fans, friends and family help me make this album, but it also lets whoever is giving a donation be a part of this experience.
This album features not only acoustic guitars and vocals, but drums, bass, electric guitars, keyboards (synths, piano, and strings) ... and hopefully you.
One of the Incentives is for the person donating to sing as a backing vocalist on the album. One of the songs on the album (or last of 4) features a final chorus of as many people as I can get to sing with me. The idea is kind of like "We don't need no education" from "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd" or "Give Peace A Chance".
You record your vocals - send them to me - I add you into the track. If you're out of tune - there are ways of fixing that.
Other Incentives include a private show in your living room. Have some friends over, and we'll play for you. Also, private guitar lessons both personally and online. Private lessons have to be in the Los Angeles or Southern California area. The online lessons (Skype) will allow all of my incredible fans from all over the world to be included. If anyone has any ideas for incentives, send them my way!
12-14 songs have been written. Many which have been favorites at local shows and on YouTube.
I'm setting $5000.00 as the goal. At least 3 to 4 of these songs can be recorded. Obviously, the more money that this project raises, the more songs and higher quality product I can make.
$5000 isn't alot to make an album. It's actually close to impossible, but at least I can get what I have out there. An average studio can cost from $500 to $1000 a day. I am the fastest recorder in the west, though, and I can back that up. ; )
Not only does it cost to record, but it has to be mixed, then Mastered, then copies have to be printed. Adds help too.
So I am hoping to go over my goal, but I dont want to make it for $10,000 or $15,000 - risk not making it and have nothing at all - and these songs which I believe are the best I've ever written fade away into obscurity and I'm one of the only people who has ever heard them. I have something to say now more than ever and I know that there are people out there that need to hear this.
The amount can exceed the goal but if it is not reached, all of the money goes back to whomever contributed it.
Also I'm hoping to hire my bandmates, Tommy and Warren. (Warren even turned down Katy Perry to keep playing with me!!! Thanks Warren!) They have been playing with me live to add their dimensions to these songs. They have both been extremely supportive and push me when I don't know how to go any further with this.
With the diligent help of my manager, Lisa Claus (whom I don't think any of this would even be possible without), I feel like now is the time to strike and I've never felt like that before in my life.
The days of record labels putting up money for artists to make their albums is all but a dim light in our past. Musicians are all out there alone and we are all in this together. In a way, to me this is a very exciting time to be a performing musician. We have the capabilities and the possibilities to pave new roads for music that have never come up before. Sometimes when things are crumbling, we find our greatest achievements. Out of the black then or there in some cases comes the light again...
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for your support.
Keep checking back for updates.
