Hello, Ninth World Kickstarter backers—

Hey everyone! Monte here. Charles writes most of the updates nowadays, but I just wanted to take the time to personally say how much your support of Numenera has meant to me over the last three years.

When Shanna and I launched the original Numenera Kickstarter campaign, I had no idea if anyone would be interested. We were, of course, blown away by the response it got, and since then, many thousands of people have discovered the game after the Kickstarter. Numenera is now a hefty product line. There's a Numenera deckbuilding game, and of course a computer game on the way. Numenera itself has been translated into six other languages, and we even did a big deluxe boxed set edition.

That initial Kickstarter launched Monte Cook Games (including The Strange and the Cypher System as a whole). It is why we are able to do everything we're doing. During that first campaign, some of you will remember, as I was putting out stretch goals, I jokingly said that if we reached $500,000, we'd make a Numenera short film. Well, much to my surprise, we reached that goal. Now, all of the various rewards of that Kickstarter are fulfilled, including the fact that we're making a short film.

I've been joking around with the rest of the team that if we have a Numenera Kickstarter campaign that exceeds the $517,255 we raised to fund Numenera, we'd do something equally special. I thought I'd share the thought with you guys too, because you'll all a part of this as well.

Now, I'm not saying this is at all likely. I'll be honest—it is not. So this isn't really a stretch goal. But it is a promise: If we reach $517,256, there will be an ongoing Numenera comic book.

Why a comic book? Because, as with the film stretch goal, I'm a huge comics fan. I love the comic book medium, and I have read comics for more than 35 years. Like with the movie, I don't know how we'd do this. (Although unlike with the movie, I do have some experience writing comics.) But frankly, that was the inspiring part of the Numenera short film goal. It pushed us beyond what we would normally try. So I thought I'd just throw this out there. Not really a stretch goal, but a pledge.

Mostly, though, I just want you to know that I really appreciate your support, and I'm willing to shoot the moon if you are.

Iadace!
—Monte

And in the 9th World, the comic could even be about shooting the moon!

I'm sure if they went through any major publisher that does indie style comics (Dynamite, Dark Horse, Image) It would be available through comixology digitally for people where shipping is prohibitive. Even if they don't you can go through comixology completely independent as well.

Numenera is a huge part of my life, as a gamer, as a writer, but most of all, as a dreamer.
I'd love a Numenera comic book: it would be like Mœbius meets Miyazaki!

I would buy a Numenera comic. But considering the hefty shipping cost to get it over here (Belgium), not even taking the import tax in account, I would appreciate a webcomic more.

What about doing this as a webcomic?

I would totally back a kickstarter for a Numenera comic. I realize MCG has a lot on it's plate but why not just get the wheel turning toward launching it independent of another kickstarter.
