Hello monster supporters. I owe you all an update on the progress of the Necessary Monsters recording, so here it is, long overdue:
It's sounding wonderful thus far. We have a few overdubs yet to record, and all of it yet to mix. The tracks we recorded at Fantasy Studios last Summer are really breathtaking. I'm opening up the session again next month to surmise exactly what's left to do. The design of the book (design by Anna Singer, text by Rafael Osés) is done, and truly inventive and beautiful.
I know it's been far longer than I had projected, and I'm sorry that I was unable to stick to the schedule I'd outlined. A few things have been holding the project at bay, namely that I now live on the opposite coast from most of the band, and that we're putting it out ourselves, which comes with a number of significant puzzles to solve.
In the mean time, as you know, I've been hard at work on Rabbit Rabbit Radio and on writing the new song cycle for the International Contemporary Ensemble, At Night We Walk in Circles and Are Consumed by Fire, which we're performing in Washigton, D.C. this Thursday at Atlas Arts.
(I've signed you all up for Rabbit Rabbit Radio subscriptions. If you've had trouble signing in for whatever reason, please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org)
Believe me when I say that no one will be more relieved than I to be able to have and hold the Necessary Monsters book and recording. I'm hesitant to declare another date for the Monsters finish line until I've solved some of the puzzles around printing and distribution. But please know that I am still really excited about it, and that you will be the first to know when it all comes together in a tangible audible sharable form!
Thank you for the persistence of your patience. I am grateful to you all.
P.S. Please note that we will not be performing Necessary Monsters at the Stone, NYC in June.
