About this project
Monokini 2.0 -Who says you need two?
Monokini 2.0 is a swimwear collection designed for breast cancer operated women. Monokini 2.0 swimwear makes it possible for one-breasted women to feel beautiful as they are, even on the beach. No more empty swimwear cups or sweaty prosthesis!
In the 1960's designer Rudi Gernreich fashioned the first Monokini that was meant as a cultural statement: "It had to do with more than what to wear on the beach. It was about a changing culture throughout all society, about freedom and emancipation", uncannily similar to what we want to achieve with our Monokini 2.0. We hope that if Rudi's original Monokini made it easier for women to go topless on the beach if they wanted to, our updated Monokini 2.0 will make it easier for women to go breastless on the beach if they want to.
How did this all began?
The project started out as a non-profit art-project that resulted in an internationally touring photo-exhibition. Together with eight other designers, we (Katriina & Vilma) created Haute Couture swimming suits for one-breasted women that were presented by volunteer models. In the end we had 10 beautiful fashion photographs, 10 Haute Couture swimming suits and 10 empowered women. Why do we want to make this real?
Miss Elina Halttunen (the mother of the whole project) has dreamed of buying a suitable swimming suit for almost ten years, and has obviously been sharing the need with several other breast cancer operated women. We went viral with our Monokini 2.0 fashion photographs, and received a lot of inquiries: "Where can I buy these?", "Why are you not producing these?", "I want to have my own Monokini 2.0!". Therefore, we want to offer Monokini 2.0's for anybody to buy - all over the world!
The money is going to be used for?
The money is going to be used in producing three different designs of Monokini 2.0 swimwear. These high quality swimming suits are designed by Finnish designers::

Our costs are
The 55,000 dollars will be used for:
- PRODUCTION 70%
- MARKETING 20%
- CREATING ONLINE-SHOP 10%
- Materials (fabrics, threads, siliconbands, labels, prints)
- Industrial sewing
- Professional patterns
- Facebooks ads
- Google Ads
- Printed press
CREATING AN ONLINE-SHOP includes:
- On-line shop platform fees
- Professional coder
- Professional graphic designer
Stage of production
We have different stages in our Monokini 2.0 -project. Designing is already done, now we need to get the production running, start building up our online-shop and market it. Our Monokini 2.0 project is going to finished by the end of October 2014. We promise that we will open our online-shop on the 1st of November 2014.
Our promise for you
We will promise that if we get the money required we will work harder than ever to make sure that the world will be a little bit nicer place for women who have to deal with their different body-image daily. Monokini 2.0's will be available in our online-shop before 1st of November 2014.

Risks and challenges
Main risks of our project are:
1. Production delay due to high demand
We have anticipated the high demand by making pre-contracts with all our suppliers that include paragraphs on penalties for delays.
2. We will not reach the target group
We have made a comprehensive marketing plan for our project. We are very familiar with usage of social media and internet based marketing. Our internationally touring photography exhibition is part of our marketing plan as well as collaborations with international breast cancer associations.
