In The Sound of Sirens, you play as sirens from different musical genres, luring ships to their doom. The goal of the game is to be the first to crash ship onto the Merfolk Cliffs, at the end of the treacherous Dire Strait.
Many challenges lie ahead, as you try to evade sea monsters while anchoring your opponents' ships and looting their treasures.
Will the sound of your sirens have the most allure? Only the best singer will be crowned the most relentless champion of the seven seas!
We want to give you the opportunity to see the cards, play a game, and check out what you're backing. Just give us your email address and we’ll send you all the files you need.
This is what the setup looks like for a 3-player game:
On your turn, you are allowed to play as many actions cards from your hand as you like. Some are reaction cards that can be used to sabotage your fellow players.
Most action cards summon sirens that will attract a ship towards the pointy rocks marking the finish line. But beware! If you draw the wrong type of siren, one of your opponents gets to move instead!
Along the way, your opponents will be summoning sea monsters on your path! These creatures hinder your movement, but you can move or destroy them using certain action cards.
At the end of your turn, you must discard all cards you didn't use. However, treasure chests let you store action and reaction cards for future turns. Just be careful not to cling to your treasures for too long, because your opponents might steal or destroy them!
Lastly, there is a catch-up mechanism built into the game. As the game goes on, the boats progress along the strait, and the thick fog closes behind them. The player whose ship is at the back of the pack will receive additional action cards when they move forward.
Here's a quick overview of all the included action cards:
If you want to get the full picture, here's a more in-depth explanation of the rules , and short independant review (starting at 14:35).
We decided to keep all the cards completely language-independent, making the game accessible to players of all countries and ages!
The rulebook will have multiple languages! English and Dutch are already finished, and we're finalizing the German and French versions. We would love to include other languages, so let us know which ones you would like us to add in this Google Form!
We'll be shipping worldwide from Belgium, check out the shipping costs when pledging.
After unlocking the material upgrade for the ships, we'll be concentrating on adding new original artwork by the amazingly talented Jeroen Van Zwol. He deserves to be fairly compensated for his art, and that's why we want to make sure we can raise the funds for it.
Our hope is to have a big and diverse cast of sirens in all shapes and sizes.
The octopus is great, but there could be so many more terrors in the seas.
MORE STRETCH GOALS TO BE REVEALED AS THE CAMPAIGN UNFOLDS!

After ditching the Sponge Girls, Geri Halibut has been scoring hit after hit, becoming the icon all the guppies aspire to.
Buccaneers and scallywags scurry to top of the crow’s nest when they hear the screeching of the Rock Sirens. Mutiny is just a guitar solo away.
Here's an excerpt from Rays Against the Marine who redefined the plunge rock genre.
These infatuating arias force sea captains to steer their ships straight into the soulful sirenades of the Ballad Sirens. Unfortunately for them, their hearts will not go on...

The Sound of Sirens wasn't designed and developed by a lone shark. It took a whole team to pull off these shenanigans.
Jeroen - All of the amazing artwork you see was conceived by this man, under his alias Zwoltopia. His resume includes several projects for the city of Ghent and for FACTS, Belgium's most prominent superhero convention. Likes to draw himself as Disney princesses. We'll spare you the gory details.
Dries - Took care of most of the game development on the SOS, loves tinkering with components, words, and visuals. Self-proclaimed classical music nerd and one of only TWO globally recognized grand masters of Xena: Warrior Princess trivia!! If you're not genuinely impressed by that, we don't know what's wrong with you.
Dennis - College professor and entrepreneur gone supervillain. Master of Marketing, if you're receiving emails from us, they most likely spawned from his insane membrane. The second of only TWO globally recognized grand masters of Xena: Warrior Princess trivia!! Always leaves for ski trips at the worst possible times.
Jo - Came up with the theme and framework for TSOS. Spends most of his spare time playing board and card games while maintaining a local gaming community on the side. Totally digs long talks, candlelight dinners and moonlight walks on the beach. Was forced to watch several Xena episodes as part of an occult inauguration ritual.

Risks and challenges
With Deer Lord in 2015 and Bilder in 2018, Monkeyshine Games already has two successful Kickstarter projects under its belt. Bilder was delivered to backers just 2 weeks ago! We're hoping that we can continue our good run and that The Sound of Sirens will get the funding it needs, as well.
We can’t do this without you though, so please show us your continued support by backing The Sound of Sirens now!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
