About this project
We've reached $20,000 (4X our original goal)! Thank you to everyone who has supported us! We are still able to supply an unlimited number of backers as we can scale up our first batch of monkey sauce for as many pre-orders as we get - so PLEASE KEEP ON BACKING US! Now is your chance to get bottles from the very first order of monkey sauce! Thanks again for your continued support - we can't wait to ship to you.
Thank you for checking out the Monkey Sauce Kickstarter page!
We are Dan Garblik and Lalit Kalani, co-founders of a brand new company that re-imagines traditional Indian chutneys as delicious, accessible, fun condiments that can be used with everyday American foods. After 18 months of recipe iterations, product testing, and logistics planning - Bandar's first two products are finally ready to be made. We started this Kickstarter page specifically to help us fund our first batch of sauce. As we will be initially manufacturing our product in India and shipping it to the United States, we need your help in making our dream a reality. We'll reward our Kickstarter supporters who help make our first batch with the inaugural bottles of the Indian version of Sriracha “rooster sauce.” If you can help us get this first batch off the ground, we hope to transition to a sustainable business and you can soon find Bandar products in your local store.
What is Monkey Sauce?
Our first two chili sauces - Spicy Mango Chili Sauce and Mint Cilantro Chili Sauce - are inspired by Lalit’s family recipes of mango pickle (achar) and mint cilantro chutney – ubiquitous condiments found throughout South Asia, yet virtually unknown by many American palettes. So, we added our own spice blends and puréed the sauces down from their typical chunky form into tasty, appetizing, squeeze-bottle condiments that until now didn’t exist anywhere in the United States. We think these products can be the bridge the culinary gap between traditional Indian kitchens and American plates.
The savory, spicy flavors of Bandar’s All Natural Spicy Mango and Mint Cilantro Chili Sauces can be enjoyed by Americans on just about anything that could use a unique, exotic kick - Bandar sauces go great with sandwiches, rice, pizza, falafels, kebobs, French fries, nuggets, burgers and even waterlogged hot dogs.
Our products are made using all natural ingredients and do not use artificial preservatives or colors. We initially created our recipes while studying Whole Foods’ guidelines of unacceptable ingredients.
We Need your Help!
We’ve spent a year and a half perfecting the recipes and working out the production details and are finally ready to launch this summer! To maintain the authenticity of our products, the sauces will be produced in India.
All the paperwork is complete and everything is ready to go. However, there are many costs in importing a first batch of food product from another country - so in order to make this project a reality, we are raising funding on Kickstarter. The monies that we raise from our supporters will not be used for general business expenses, but to specifically cover the following costs associated with our first batch of sauce:
• Manufacturing Costs
• International Ocean Shipping
• Legal Services
• Indian and US Customs
• FDA requirements and lab tests
• Shipping to stores and you!
In exchange for your funding, we’re offering exciting rewards – our sauces, as well as fun merchandise and apparel branded with the mischievous Bandar monkey.
Our Present and Future
Over the last few months we have had some exciting achievements! We were semi-finalists in Rooster Design’s Next Big Small Brand Competition and successfully received a YouthTrade Certification. The YouthTrade certification gave us the opportunity to meet the the WholeFoods North Atlantic Regional Team, who asked us to sell our product in half of their regional stores.
We have started to secure placements in several California retail locations and will hopefully have our sauces present on several gourmet taco trucks in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Boston.
