How do I break into the game industry? This is a question many ask, and we want to help people get their dream job working on games.
What is MomoCon?
With over 12,000 people in 2013, MomoCon is one of the fastest growing all ages conventions in the country. Fans of Japanese Anime, American Animation, and Video Games come together to celebrate their passion by costuming / cosplay, browsing the huge exhibitors hall, meeting celebrity voice talent, designers, and writers behind their favorite shows and games, and much much more over this 3 day event. The next MomoCon takes place at the Hilton Atlanta and Marriott Marquis May 23rd - 25th.
2013 was an amazing year, and we have this brief video highlighting some of the activities and attendees:
Why is MomoCon Hosting a College and Career Fair?
In 2013 MomoCon hosted a panel featuring representatives from Bioware, Hi-Rez Studios, and Riot Games to a very full audience. If this panel proved anything, it is that there is a huge demand for jobs making games. You can see the panel for yourself here:
We love being in the Southeast, and we have amazing talent here in Atlanta from Georgia Tech, Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta campus, and Southern Polytechnic State University among others. Additionally for more experienced talent we have a highly organized Georgia Game Developers Association who will be taking part . This career fair is an opportunity to give back to our community and provide something that is currently missing from our region.
Additionally because MomoCon is a regional event, we are able to work with colleges both in and outside the area to bring even greater attention to their game and media design programs.
Who can Attend this College and Career Fair?
While paid membership is required for MomoCon itself, the career fair is free to attend and open to everyone when it takes place on Thursday May 22nd at 12PM, prior to the start of MomoCon 2014 on Friday May 23rd. No membership required!
Why Should My College or Company Participate?
MomoCon has a solid group of influencers that are uniquely passionate about gaming and animation and is appropriate for all ages. While we don't have experience organizing a college and career fair as of yet, we have operated one of the largest conventions in the country dealing with hundreds of exhibitors and sponsors over the past 10 years. We have reach to tens of thousands of high school and college students, along with young processionals in the Southeast region who either already know game design or want nothing more than to learn. Here are some of the important stats from the past year:
How is the Venue?
The Hilton Atlanta is one of our host hotels and has an absolutely gorgeous 18,000 sq ft Grand Ballroom, where the career fair will be held in 2014.
We can fit 44 10 x 10 sq ft decorated booths in the first half of the ballroom. Each booth will come with a 6ft table and 2 chairs , and we will work with the Hilton to provide internet and power for each booth in advance; both will be included with the cost of the booth.
Additionally we can accommodate select partner requests for private interview space located near to the ballroom.
How Will the Funds be Used?
Organizing this Career Fair has substantial costs between the venue, printing, and equipment. For that reason your Kickstarter contribution will go directly towards covering these costs for this Career Fair, ensuring we are able to both create a professional environment and not have to charge any fee to the job seeking attendee. Any revenue beyond costs will go towards additional improvements to the Career Fair and further benefits we can provide to the job seeker.
The career fair will last from 12PM EST until 5PM EST on Thursday May 22nd 2014, with setup beginning at 8AM. Purchasing one of the booth reward tiers means agreeing to these load in times, and that all setups will be moved out by no later than 7PM EST on the same day. Any storage of equipment or setups can be arranged directly with the Hilton Atlanta. Any specific questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org
If your company would be interested in hosting a panel at MomoCon 2014, you are welcome to apply here.
Taking Advantage of the Latest Trends
We have a strong connection to Georgia Tech, so when research comes out of Georgia Tech that suggests the best phrases for a Kickstarter we take notice. It is hard to argue with Georgia Tech research, so we present to you a picture of our cat, who we will rename Christina, for the month of December upon successful funding.
The cat (currently named Mu), has pledged that the project will be completed successfully, even if he should also receive two names.
Don't forget to check out MomoCon 2014!
We expect over 15,000 people will attend MomoCon this year, and if you are interested in attending, a 3-Day membership is $40 online at this time. Remember, there is no charge for the career fair, just the 3 days of MomoCon itself. Up-to-date information about the current celebrity guests, panels, and how to register is online: http://www.momocon.com/momocon-2014-important-information/
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have successfully managed to run a growing event for the past 10 years with incredibly positive feedback and expectations. There have been many lessons learned on how to provide and create customer experiences for our attendees, and provide a quality event for exhibitors and partner companies.
This will be the first time we have organized a career fair, and with it comes new challenges. We need to provide a professional environment for our partner companies, and ensure that we have a large turnout of qualified candidates.
To ensure the most talented individuals attend we will work with our local colleges including: Georgia Tech, Savannah College of Art and Design Atlanta campus, Southern Polytechnic State University, Georgia State, and Art Institute of Atlanta. We are also working with the Georgia Game Developers Association and TAG to reach the existing community of developers and artists who have years of experience already under their belt.
