VOX Vocal Studio & Performing Arts started because even with nearly 30 years of experience in the music industry, I had difficulty finding the instruction, information, and tools needed to continue to grow and become a better artist. I noticed the same was true for my friends, most of whom are also performers, singers, actors, musicians, dancers, artists, writers, innovators, and creatives. As I started a dialogue with them the need became clear: We needed a place where both children and adults could afford to discover and magnify their talents - a space that would provide classes taught by local community experts and currently working/gigging artists who know the demands of today's music industry. We needed an institution that would provide real performing experience for all students, not just students who pay more. We needed an institution that would not only properly train aspiring artists, but guide them along the long path to a successful career in music. We needed a performing arts institution that we would feel safe and confident sending our own children to. People came out of the woodwork wanting not to just share their expertise, but wanting to continue their own growth by enrolling themselves and their children as well.
I have compiled a list of teachers and classes they will teach at VOX. My goal is start our first season with kickstarter. Classes will be held in Salt Lake City, UT and will begin as early as January 2013, to continue on through the beginning of spring. Our curriculum is distinctly contemporary in content and approach; specializing in musical styles like pop, r&b, rock, jazz, blues, and country. The money from kickstarter will pay the teachers, buy the gear, as well as help pay for the space. This project will fund the first season of VOX Performing Arts.
With your contribution, you will help start a school.
We invite you to take full advantage of our rewards. We have options for non-local backers to take private voice lessons over Skype or FaceTime. Our rewards are transferrable so you can gift your rewards to your child or person of your choice. Private voice lessons are available for any age, however, the children's group voice lessons are for children ages 4-18.
The mission of VOX Performing Arts is to educate, train, and develop students to excel in music as a career. Developing the artistry of all our students is the foundation of our curriculum. We believe that the lessons and qualities derived from that work—the self-discipline needed for excellence, the empathy required of music making and the openness and inquisitiveness essential to creativity—are critical to achievement in any pursuit, musical or otherwise; and that music is a powerful catalyst for personal growth.
An unbelievable amount of friends and acquaintances have come forth to teach at VOX. Teachers are chosen based their ideas, experience, expertise, authenticity, skills, and talents. "Those who can't do, teach" does not apply at VOX. All teachers chosen to be a part of the VOX team will be individuals who currently work in the music industry.
Our team's includes: a recording artist with albums on iTunes, former American Idol contestant, Broadway performer, currently gigging singers and musicians, tv/film actor, and celebrity backup singers and dancers. That's just to name a few; I could write a novel on our team's accomplishments.
We offer private lessons for aspiring artists of ALL ages. We also offer group voice lessons for children ages 4-18. Improve vocal technique, develop stage presence and vocal style, and live performance & audition coaching. We also have an artists development program for our advanced students who are ready to take the next step in pursuing their careers in music. We will produce your demo, provide a photo shoot, film your own music video, and even produce your own showcase when you're ready. ALL students at VOX will have the opportunity to perform. At VOX, we don't just provide a recital in a rehearsal studio, but we provide real performing opportunities in shows throughout the season. Several group (glee-style) vocal companies will be formed according to age and skill and, incorporating singing and dancing. Vocal labs will focus on specific techniques such as "safe rock singing", "riffs & runs", "rockin' the stage" (stage presence and microphone technique), "improvisation", and "studio vocals". Other types of classes we'll offer are mommy & me toddler class, acting, DJ lessons, hip hop (dance), piano, guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, and other musical instrument lessons. We also plan to offer art, photography, and film-making classes down the road, as our institution continues to grow.
Performance opportunities will include local events, parades, festivals, and other large-scale public events. VOX will also produce a bi-annual showcase in a professional local theater for all interested students to participate in. You can expect more than just your run-of-the-mill recital in a rehearsal studio. All students enrolled will have the opportunity to perform.
THE FUTURE OF VOX PERFORMING ARTS
As our school continues to grow over the next few years we hope to continue to widen our range of disciplines to offer to the community. We'd like to build a state-of-the-art performance space accessible to all local artists, and offer more and more types of classes like music technology and audio production. We hope to someday be able to offer scholarships to aspiring artists who might not have the means to study in a private institution.
The sky is the limit. This kickstarter campaign helps us get closer to this goal. THANK YOU for your love and support.

Risks and challenges
Communication, integrity, and compassion are vital to the operation of this establishment. As with any project there are unforeseen challenges that may arise, but I am confident that if I encourage my team to constantly communicate, possess integrity, and demonstrate compassion for others we will be able to tackle any challenges we face. And its true, there isn't a shortage of voice teachers, music schools, or dance studios in Utah, so there's the risk of competition. But I can assure you that I already have an overwhelming amount of interest for our school, plus our school will stand in a category on its own, without direct competition against other schools in the area. We're the only school that offers what we offer, and with this kickstarter fund we will be able to keep our tuition prices low. We only see a big, bright future for VOX Performing Arts.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
