A beautifully tender & comic new play by Ashleigh Packham, fusing music and projection to expose a vital, political and social story.

Poleroid Theatre want to introduce you to PEANUTS - Ashleigh Packham's debut play.

Our mission is to achieve funding in order to take this play to the prestigious Edinburgh Festival this year, after previewing in London this Spring.

ABOUT POLEROID THEATRE:

"Top of this weeks list for all theatre goers..." (Remote Goat on BACK2BACK)

In an industry driven by TV talent competitions and 'names' dominating the West End, Poleroid Theatre is a like-minded collective championing new writing, developing the contemporary image of young creatives in the UK and giving this talent a platform through the creation of eclectic, fast-paced, exhilarating contemporary theatre, that tells important, poignant and off-beat stories about young people.

Poleroid was founded by Guildford School of Acting graduate Molly Roberts in 2011.

Poleroid Theatre

"Snap-shot theatre for a Facebook era."

In the last year we’ve had shows in London at Theatre503, Etcetera Theatre, Cockpit Theatre, White Bear Theatre, Hackney Attic and are currently producing our new play PEANUTS for The Tristan Bates Theatre, The Last Refuge Theatre and hopefully the Edinburgh Fringe this year!

We’ve been lucky enough to have collaborated with writers, actors, musicians and directors from the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, Old Vic New Voices, Live Theatre Newcastle, BBC 3 & Channel 4, Guildford School of Acting, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Central School of Speech and Drama, East 15 and more.

THE PROJECT:

“Is it selfish?

To want to be something extraordinary...”

This year, using an eclectic mix of live music and projection, Poleroid Theatre bring you Ashleigh Packham’s quirky, well-crafted and incredibly intimate debut play, exposing a darkly comic and relevant political and social story dealing with attitudes towards young people and their effects.

Anna vs. The World.

With her collection of Peanuts.

"...I find ones in the shape of things"

This is the story of a girl who wants to be everyone and everything.

But she isn't.

So what does she do now?

Peanuts is a beautifully vibrant and tender insight into how a young girl deals with the pressure placed on today’s youth and the loneliness of modern society.

Poleroid’s cast includes Actress REBECCA TANWEN (Mr Selfridge, ITV; The Fear, Channel 4), and Musicians LUCY BISHOP and CHRIS YARNELL.

Jamie Garven, senior Acting tutor at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama recently said:

“Ashleighs expression of delicate feelings and awaresness of despair is what gives her witty, funny, intelligent writing a wonderful sense of maturity.”

We are lucky to be developing the piece in London this Spring, firstly at the Tristan Bates Theatre, Covent Garden (18th Feb, 2013)

before transferring for a run at:

The Last Refuge – a new (and rather cool) warehouse theatre space in Peckham (26th-31st March) so come along and check it out!

BUT we need your funds specifically to help take this project to the prestigious Edinburgh Festival this Summer.

Up until 2013, our projects have combined various pieces of new work from different writers and blended them into one overall immersive piece, fusing live music, live projection and images.

This is now our second year and we are extremely passionate about producing our first full length play, written by one writer, at the prestigious 'rite of passage' that is the Edinburgh Festival.

We hope (after our inaugural year) your funds will allow us to take Poleroid to the next level in terms of exposure to the public and industry professional alike and subsequently allow us to give more young talented artists opportunities in the future.

WHERE YOUR FUNDING COMES INTO THE POLEROID CLAN:

One of our major aims for the next few years is to be able to pay our actors and creatives a professional wage (so far our projects have been entirely self funded), therefore any money you can donate to us will hopefully go towards this ambition. We think everyone involved in PEANUTS should be paid something – at least.

Of course, in the immediate future we also have to fund :

Venue deposits

Accommodation for the company in Edinburgh

Travel

Marketing

Company Expenses

Your money will be gratefully received and very well spent. If you pledge you will also receive various exciting rewards as shown to your right.

Based on our budget it's looking like we're going to need just over £20,000 to take this project, professionally to Edinburgh.

Yes, we realise, it’s quite a lot so this is going to be a challenge but we’re currently sending off lots of funding applications which, combined with your support will hopefully send us skipping up to Edinburgh this year!

We are incredibly excited about the whole milarky and any support you can give us to take (what we think should be) a really great new play up to Edinburgh will be so gratefully received and thus allow us to give more emerging talented young artists opportunities in the future.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Our main challenge will be successfully marketing our production and product in a new and extremely competitive market that is the Edinburgh Fringe.

We want to make sure we make contact with as many influential members of the theatre industry as possible and make sure our production is never compromised in an intense, pressured environment away from our London base.

We will be employing as many method as possible to make sure that we make use of every opportunity we are faced with at the festival so non of this funding will go to waste.
