Hi I’m Jamal Igle, creator of Molly Danger. I’m here today to talk to you about joining me for the next chapter of Molly’s adventures.
Molly Danger is a super powered 10-year-old-alien girl who protects the city of Coopersville, New York from an army of villains called The Supermechs. Although Molly is an internationally famous super heroine, she is incredibly lonely and isolated from the public by D.A.R.T. (Danger’s Action Response Team) command. Forbidden from having personal contact, she has no friends, no family, and no life outside of being a hero; that is until she meets D.A.R.T. pilot and new partner Austin Briggs and befriends his stepson Brian Hammond. Book two picks up nine months since the end of book one with Molly continuing to break D.A.R.T. protocols as she begins to question what is and what is not real. Meanwhile, the mysterious Father has gathered The Supermechs to reveal his plans for Molly, D.A.R.T. and Coopersville.
Our story originally started out as an animation pitch and sat on the shelf for years as my career flourished with mainstream and small press comic book companies. In 2012, my daughter Catherine inspired me to rework the concept for Molly. When she was old enough to read, I wanted her to enjoy a story that was positive, grounded and had a strong young female hero. A role model, who in spite of all the slings and arrows thrown at her, the tragedies suffered and the life she was thrust into would remain a good person. For me personally, Molly is a journey of the heart and spirit and is inspired by the love I have for comics and the stories I grew up on. It’s my legacy; the gift I want to give to the world and inspire girls all over like my Catie.
Molly Danger: Book One was an all around unmitigated success. Thanks to you, the Kickstarter community, we exceeded our initial goal, which also allowed us to produce an audiobook. Your generous help, Molly took the industry by storm garnering accolades and praise from the press, professionals and readers alike. So now, I’m back seeing your help to fund the next chapter in Molly’s story. As before, depending on the number of backers I’m looking to produce a minimum print run of 2,000 books. The funds will go directly to production and editorial efforts of the book, printing, delivery and storage, shipping through Amazon fulfillment and the production of incentives. Action Lab Entertainment will continue to partner with me and handle wide distribution.
The question that usually comes up in conversations with me is “If you have a publisher, why are you coming back to Kickstarter?” The answer is that Action Lab, similar to Image Comics is a company primarily made up of generated content which means the bulk of the production costs is the creator’s responsibility. Because of the higher production value of the series, Action Lab can’t bear the brunt of the costs without some financial assistance. Creating the book does incur time and cost. Fortunately, the experience my team and I had with producing Molly Danger: Book One will help us with this book. There will be a substantial production period, which includes printing and shipping from the printer. My goal is to have the book in hand by March 2016 for shipment to backers before it’s scheduled wide release date of April 2016.
Molly Danger will be a bi-monthly series, shipping every two months beginning in July of 2016 in comic shops. We've partnered with Comixology.com and will be offering to backers an exclusive digital subscription that will not only give you each Molly Danger issue months before it hits comic shops, you'll get it before anyone else on the website.
Every two issues, beginning with issues 3 and 4, will be collected into the same lovely hardcover format as Molly Danger: Book One with an exclusive cover. Every four issues will be collected as a trade paperback. Along with theses releases, I’m planning two Molly Danger projects that will be announced later this year that are currently in the works. There will be a one shot crossover with Vito Delsante and Sean Izaakse’s STRAY and Ray Anthony Height’s MIDNIGHT TIGER. This book has a larger role in an upcoming story we’re building for 2016.
So what will you receive for your pledges? All backers will have their names listed in the credits of Book Two. I will be creating a wearable Molly Danger “M” Badge for backers who pledge $5.00 or more. We are also offer a digital subscription to the bi-monthly Molly Danger series for backers who pledge $20.00 or more.
Molly Danger: Book Two is a 48 page, full color hardcover book, and like Book One we are offering signed copies, copies with character sketches in the covers in both black and white and color. Backers will be able to choose between one of two covers, one drawn by myself and the second drawn by Eisner award winning creator of the popular webcomic “Battlepug” Mike Norton. There are limited amount of copies that Molly Danger: Book One for those people who missed it the first time around as well as T-shirts for children and adults in multiple sizes. I’m offering a limited number of original inked pages from Molly Danger: Book One, signed by myself and inker Juan Castro Retailer incentive packs are also available; you can receive 5 or 10 copies, signed and shipped. I will also be doing private commissions ranging between $100 dollars for Black and white head and bust. $200 for single figure drawings and $500 dollars for “Cover style” commissions.
