February - Kickstarter launches!
March - Kickstarter ends! If successful, pins go into production. Once the designs are approved, manufacturing takes about 4 weeks.
May - I receive the pins from the manufacturer and begin the laborious (but joyful!) process of shipping them all to you!
June - Barring any production delays or shipping mishaps, everyone should have their pins in hand by early June!
60% - Pin production! Pretty self explanatory -- this covers the nitty-gritty of getting these pins manufactured.
25% - Shipping! This covers the costs of all shipping involved -- from the manufacturer to me, and then from me to you!
15% - Safety buffer! This is to account for Kickstarter fees, payment processing, dropped pledges, and any miscalculations or unforeseen expenses.
My initial goal of $300 covers manufacturing, shipping, and Kickstarter fees for an order of 100 coyote skull pins. For every additional $300 raised after that, another design will be unlocked! Any money raised beyond these stretch goals will go towards increasing my order quantity.
Hey all! Thanks for checking out my humble Kickstarter!
My name is Molly Alice Hoy, and I'm an illustrator and indie designer based in LA. As of last year, I work full-time running my Etsy shop, Gold and Mean, where I sell products like jewelry, apparel, and everyone's favorite -- enamel pins! I love designing new things to stock my store, but turning these designs into real live products often means meeting order minimums that can easily run hundreds of dollars. As an indie artist, it's rare that I have that much disposable cash in one place at any given time!
In 2017, I turned to Kickstarter and successfully funded my first pin design. By the end of the year, I had successfully funded two more campaigns -- my Arcane Animal pin series followed by my Star Fawn pin set. After a year off, I'm excited to get back in the game and fund my latest set of designs!
Your Kickstarter pledge not only scores you a cool pin (or two! or maybe three!), but it also helps directly support me and make my dream of an indie art career possible. Thank you!
Risks and challenges
The fact that this is a small project with a modest goal mitigates a lot of the risks and challenges that other projects face. Having run three successful Kickstarters already, not to mention placing frequent product orders for my Etsy shop, I have a pretty good idea of what I’m in for. On top of that, I’ve done my best to allot generous buffers in both my budget and timeline to account for any oversights or mishaps that might arise during production and shipping. And of course I’ll be sure to keep my backers up to date in the event that any such mishaps arise!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
