You'll be asked for these preferences after the Kickstarter ends so don't worry about the exacts now.
To make your tee fit you in all the right ways we need 5 measurements.
- torso length
- shoulder width
You won't be asked for these until after the Kickstarter ends. We will send out informational videos and instructions telling you exactly how to take them. The measurements are easy to take, but don't take it from us...
We pledge to improve the environment. We do this through our ultra-efficient manufacturing process and offsetting our carbon footprint by planting trees. We want to make a better world.
Our specialized algorithms have been refined over the course of making shirts for dozens of people. Each with their own unique measurements. These algorithms and our process are our secret sauce. They account for:
- Fabric stretch & shrinkage
- Seam allowances & placement
- Curve transitions
The algorithms use your measurements to output the pattern for your perfect tee.
While our manufacturing line is in its infancy it is already very efficient. Our algorithms allow for shirts to be placed very close together and the laser cutting machine takes less power than your kitchen light bulb. That machine is ridiculously precise; down to 0.006 mm precise. By the way, we also recycle the unused material.
Our tees are a work of love and are hand sewn here in Colorado. This isn't just another shirt made by somewhere else in the world by underpaid workers. We care about our workers and the product they produce.
Apart from how efficient and exacting we are, we have also spent copious amounts of time perfecting our stitches. We found the perfect balance of strength and slimness using more than 15 yards of thread for a single tee. That adds up to some seriously strong and long lasting seams. 💪
Inspect For Quality, Quality, Quality
Throughout the process we inspect the tee multiple times for blemishes and imperfections. Any small prick, missed stitch, or as little as a seam not being sewn to our high standards gets flagged. This is time consuming but produces the best possible product for you.
Washing & Shrinking
To ensure the perfect fitting tee our algorithms have taken into account shrinkage of the shirt. To make sure the tee fits you right when you get it we preshrink it. We run it through 2 shrinkage cycles. In addition this guarantees the tee keeps its color through multiple washes. Your tee is durable and good for 50+ washes so you don't have to worry. You can instead focus on building memories with your new favorite tee. 😊
You may see our packaging and say “I see plastic. Hah! You eco-harming charlatans!”. First off, this hypothetical sleuth turned out a bit too hasty.
Secondly, all the packaging is made of recycled and/or biodegradable products. That plastic bag protecting your shirt from the elements is made up of little pieces of other plastic bags that protected other shirts from the elements. ♻️
A few of our early prototypes, fun memories, and not so glamorous moments.
Our certified sustainable bamboo/cotton blend is designed for maximum comfort and durability. After countless wears hiking, climbing, and just laying around the shirt stays comfortably new.
In 2017 I [Ian] walked into a store looking for a really nice tee for a special, yet casual date night rock climbing. I couldn’t find one that night but I didn’t stop looking. After months finding nothing I decided I could make one. I got a highly reviewed pattern online, picked out some nice fabric, and got sewing. This didn’t fit, so ever the perfectionist I kept going. Next I created my own pattern and made shirts for myself. Before long my friends wanted some for themselves. Tired of drawing I applied my knowledge of programming to do it for me.
Before I knew it I had created algorithms to make shirts for others even easier. Soon enough I stepped back, looked at my creation, and realized I had already created the basis for the technology we currently use. Since then we’ve continued to advance but that altruism will always be at Molded Apparel’s core. MA is the perfect intersection of technology, manufacturing, and our passion to help others.
I [Ian] love the outdoors and originally started working on this as a way to get myself a nice tee. I am an engineer by trade and have started two other successful businesses in horticultural equipment and product design.
I've brought numerous products from ideation to production. As a result, manufacturing and creating new products is an enjoyable strength of mine.
In my free time I rock climb, bike, and eat a few too many desserts.
I [Henry] joined Ian after falling in love with the original prototype. Immediately, I knew there was something special here and wanted in. I come from a long line of entrepreneurs and have worked for fortune 500 companies. Being an engineer for manufacturing lines that output millions of parts a year is genuinely fun for me.
Other things I enjoy include rock climbing, watching sports, and shamelessly eating pizza for multiple meals in a row. 🍕
We pledge to do right by you and right by mother nature. This means putting you and nature above all else.
If for any reason you wish to exchange your shirt we’ll do so, no questions asked within the first 30 days. This could be because you like a different color, realized a measurement was wrong, or just feel like a change.
We will do everything in our power to make things right for you but if you are unsatisfied and want to return your shirt just send it back to us in the first 30 days and we’ll refund your order; no hard feelings. We will then recycle your shirt in alignment with our green pledge.
Additionally, if at any time during our campaign you change your mind you can get a full refund on your order, no questions asked.
Where We Are in The World
Everything is designed, manufactured, and shipped from Longmont, Colorado!
Risks and challenges
For us, the products we produce and their quality matters. We’ve spent over a year preparing our product for this kickstarter. This means we’ve vetted suppliers, tested our algorithms on dozens of people, and have left no stone unturned. We are perfectionists at heart! We have assembled all of our prototypes ourselves and can sew them together in our sleep.
We will not stop this unrelenting attitude until we see the smile our shirts put on your face.
With that said we will acknowledge that road bumps will happen along the way. A ship carrying our materials could sink or a shipper could ruin the materials. There are a huge number of things that can go wrong and we’ve worked hard to reduce the chance of that. We already have materials on hand to produce the first 200 shirts. We have all the machines we need to produce them as well. We’ve tested our algorithms, manufacturing processes, and packaging on people. We are confident that anything short of a hurricane will not stop us.
Join us on our journey of growth.
