Backer Beta is LIVE!

Hello all!

We just wanted to remind you all that the Backer Beta is live on Steam!

Head on over to Humble to claim your key. If you don’t see it, hit the Humble Resender, which should send it your way.

The beta currently represents the first 2 major biomes of the game, which we expect will be roughly a third of the total content. We will be adding more content in the coming weeks as we build it and continue to update balance and tuning.

Help & Questions

If you have any issues getting your key or any other issues with the game, please drop us a line and let us know at support@themolassesflood.com

Also, you should receive an invite to our Google Group for the beta within the next few hours. If you want access to join the conversation, and didn’t get an invite, let us know as well. We’ll sort it out. In addition to taking feedback, we’ll also be updating the group with known issues and fixes, so as problems occur take a look, there may already be a solution.

We still have a ton of work to do, but are so happy to be sharing this game with you all. We couldn’t have done it without all your support, and are so happy to show you what we’ve been up to.

Thanks so much, and we’ll see you on the river.

-Forrest & The Team

      Hi Tom,

We've not seen this issue, but maybe you could post it here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/tfitf-backers

Most our support requests & issues have been focused there, and maybe someone else has seen a similar issue.

I keep getting the error that I need DirectX Runtime. I say ok and it brings me to UE4 Prerequistes (x64) but can only modify and uninstall it. Tried reinstalling it that way but didn't help. Also got a couple of the stand alone DX Runtime install files but still does the same thing. Anybody else have this issue?

Hey all! Apologies for not replying sooner... people get in touch via so many methods. If you're still unable to retrieve a key, please email us at support@themolassesflood.com

Antony - the game autosaves whenever you change mode (raft to land transitions, sleep, using a fire).

We've pushed out a couple hot fixes for crashes so if you've been having issues it may be worth trying again.

    4. Antony on July 16, 2015

Is there going to be a save feature?

    5. Antony on July 16, 2015

There's a bit of a frees for me whenever I enter the options screen. Otherwise the game runs fine.

Thanks for the quick fix and getting me a key :)

I downloaded & got Steam set up on my Mac & found out it won't work w/ my version of OS X 10.6.8. Kind of frustrated as this is my primary computer.

I'll have to work on getting a Win system going & set up to try the game on it.

Haven't gotten a key, checked my humble account and resent out but nothing to do with flame of the flood listed. sent an email a few days ago to support but haven't heard anything yet.

How about GOG users? You can add test builds on GOG GALAXY.

      .......and I'm dead.......

After playing (and dieing) a few minutes:

FPS drops to 20-30 while in some "cutscenes" and other camera movements.
Constant 60fps rest of the time.
Game looks like it is DX11.
Game art is nice and stilish.
The game is not named properly yet (shows as "RiverGame").
I found a sound glitch when I started with the boat (is it a bug or just me?).

Sound glith starts at 4:45 in this short video I made.
Perhaps it is caused by the recording software and/or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deferred_Procedure_Call but only happened once.

      (Youtube, 1080p, 60fps)

      https://www.youtube.com/watch…

Gonna try later with other settings.

      My specs are:

      AMD Phenom II x6 1090T @4Ghz
      AMD R9 280 3Gb @1125/1425
      8 Gb RAM DDR3-1600Mhz
      Settings: 1080p@60hz

      TBH game looks nice.

      Cool.
Played about 10 minutes, reminded me somewhat of Don't Starve with epic harmonica rafting.
Got a freeze and crash at the first island I found when looting a container.

Nice fun game so far, think I'll wait for the polished final release though.

@matt - did you add the key to steam? On the lower left there's an "add game" option. We've also seen a report of another Mac user needing to add the game, then open its settings and opt-in to the alpha.

I have my Humble code, I downloaded steam for Mac and now I cannot find the beta demo on Steam... Help!

    16. Luis Silva on July 8, 2015

I can try and have a go with a Windows computer and a newer Mac, but it was so bad (as bad as 2-4 fps!) that I thought it had to be some sort of problem! (I can play other heavy games from steam with that Mac and no issues, even the ones with more detail can be played with some penalty on the frame rate - an example would be Bioshock Infinite)

No problem for me on Windows. The rapids are deadly eh eh ;)

    18. Frikencio on July 8, 2015

Got some strange sound glitch (beeps) but only happened once and perhaps was because I was recording.

    19. Nate edwards on July 8, 2015

I LOVE the graphics and music. The game is running smooth as silk on my computer.

However, I did get my first freeze-up when trying to dock at Mallard Cove during the first time. Looking forward to getting into the Google Group to talk and share about this game.

    20. Frikencio on July 8, 2015

Game runs fine for me (60fps, 1080p)

But in some scenes and cutscenes fps drop to 20-40.

      Game looks fine and beautiful.

      Gamepad controls are okay.

    21. The Molasses Flood Creator on July 8, 2015

Hey Luis - We don't have an official min spec for the Mac yet. I compared your specs to the iMac we have in the office and off hand it looks like your video card is quite underpowered. Is there a desktop that you can play on?

    22. Kim Bergström on July 8, 2015

its fully playable for me no low framerate or anytning :/ but then again im running on windows and not mac so :)

    23. Luis Silva on July 8, 2015

I was really excited to grab the game... but, it's pretty much unplayable with such a slow response and low frame rate!! What are the minimum specs for the game?

I'm running steam on a Mac with OS X Yosemite 10.10.4
      MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009)
2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
      8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
      NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB

    24. Frikencio on July 8, 2015

The game wont let you record with FRAPS and Dxtory.

I can only record it with the AMD Software ^^

    25. Christian Pine on July 8, 2015

      Downloading now. Super excited!!!!
