GUNLAND peers into the lives of urban youth through a raw and realistic lens. It shows how a community ravaged by gun violence causes kids to be afraid to walk the streets, go to school, and to play.
The neighborhood violence that families have to deal with is daunting. Parents try and protect their children from the gangs and the shootings, but to no avail. Kids can be shot just standing in front of their house or corner store for seemingly no reason.
Desperate times call for desperate measures and communities are desperate to find ways to protect themselves and restore their communities. It’s hard to feel hopeful when you feel as if the law doesn’t serve you and isn’t protecting you from the violence that you live with every day.
WATCH THE TRAILER
Gunland invites viewers to witness firsthand how these young people cope with the increased violence in their communities and the toll that losing a friend or family member can have on their lives.
We will operate with a small team that consists of a producer/director and a camera person that will travel from our home base in New York to Chicago. When the team lands in Chicago, they will travel directly to the South Side to interview gang members and people who have been directly affected by the violence in their neighborhood. We will also interview local clergy who will give us candid accounts of all the funerals they've had to perform for the shocking number of children and teens that are being killed. And finally we will follow a group of young peacemakers and poets called the L.Y.R.I.C. Squad who perform for the community and advocate for change.

Risks and challenges
Unfortunately, we can't pull footage for free. Research and licensing historical news footage will cost us. Your pledge will go towards licensing the best music and sounds to push our production over the top.
Travel & Lodging
In order to get the best interviews we will need to travel. A portion of our goal will support us in travel and lodging expenses.
We still have a lot of editing to do. This requires post production equipment and software. You will be helping us bring you a very polished finished product.
