Howdy gumshoes! Welcome to this month's two-for-the-price-of-one double-dense update! There's a lot to cover, so let's jump right in!

WHAT DID YOU WORK ON?

-Rebuilt the lakeside scene including adding a bunch of characters who existed in a scene we removed because it no longer worked with the story.

-Created new animations for Jenny, Suzie, Mrs Glatz, The Sheriff, students, cops, towns people, and birds

-Redesigned several characters whose roles in the game have changed ( A LOT )

-Completed layout of all secret █████ ███████

-Finished laying out a super spiffy lab scene

-Redesigned one of the big puzzles in the lab scene to be ( hopefully ) more fun for the player

-Created a system to more rapidly import and export dialogue to and from google docs

-Created scene-specifc art for the prologue

-Built out most of the opening scene for the game... the prologue

-Finished story and interaction elements that take place in Suzie's room

-Finished layout and interaction for scene where you escape from Suzie's house

WHAT'S NEXT?

We are crawling ever closer to getting everything in the game built and running. The beta test is on the horizon! But first, Ben and I have been working into the wee hours of the night, day after day. So we will be taking a few days off at the beginning of August. Then it’s a dive headlong into the final stretch of development. It's exciting to see everything coming together as we breathe life into Jenny's world!

I hope you all know how genuinely grateful we are for the opportunity to build this epic adventure! Thank you thank you thank you! =]

-Joe

WHAT DID YOU WORK ON THIS PAST MONTH?

  • Completed layout and interactions for one of the biggest scenes, where jenny crosses the lake via boat.
  • Completed cinematics and mini-games that take place around the lake scene
  • Setup author scenes which will serve as interstitials between the various chapters of Jenny's adventures.
  • Began cinematics for the author's scenes.
  • Created modular art, laid out and setup the exterior and interior of some top secret areas that I can't spoil =]

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

A small schedule update… We've got about 2 months of work left to our next big milestone! Soon we will have everything but sound design in a content-complete state. Then we will be working on sound design, all the bug fixing, play testing, polishing the writing and playthroughs. We will then share a limited beta (That’s you Beta Buddies and higher!). Here’s where we can get a bit more specific feedback on the player experience that will lead to final polish!

As always, thank you for your support and I hope you are staying cool this summer!

-Joe

CHOOSINESS QUESTION

Welcome detectives, to another monthly update!

I hope you enjoyed new gameplay trailer and get a sense of the scope of the silly and spooky adventure that Jenny will be going on. It makes me a little teary eyed seeing it all together like this. Anyway! If you missed it last time you can check it out below.

Alright, so...

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS PAST MONTH?

I took Jenny LeClue to PAX East to show the new gameplay trailer and share the game with friends and fans both old and new, and talk shop with other game dev and press. It was really cool being among a handful of games that won the PAX East Indie Showcase. This year PAX East was four days with over 80,000 people attending. CRAZINESS! Of course I came down with some kind of convention cold on day one of the show, but I rallied by the end. Feedback was great and super motivating as we enter this homestretch to launch! I was also overjoyed at how broad the age range of fans were, from 2 to 60. Fun times!

Thanks Boston!

As soon as I returned and recovered from Boston, it was right back to work on the game. We managed to wrap the layout for one of the biggest scenes in the game, when Jenny "borrows" Suzie's boat. Ben animated some new cinematics and fixed a bunch of lingering bugs in one of the earlier scenes that we found in playtesting.

Enough banter! Check out some of what we worked on!

WHAT'S NEXT?

I've got to get the prologue together. It's written and designed, but not yet laid out. Then I'll move to finish the lakeside scene from chapter one. There's a ton of characters in that scene, so quite a bit to do there as well. Ben is working on some very cool mysterious mini-scenes that occur on the lake. Spoiler alert! I MIGHT share a gif or two from those next month! =]

Until next month super sleuths!

Lastly...

CHOOSINESS QUESTION

You see a locked door in front of you. What do you do?

A) Kick the door down and somersault in

B) Pick the lock and leave no trace

C) Peep through the keyhole and take meticulous notes

CASE NOTES

Hello fellow detectives and welcome to another update! First, Let's start with some...

SUPER COOL NEWS!

Jenny LeClue - Detectivu is an official selection of the PAX East Indie Showcase! This is an incredible honor, as we are only one of four games selected! I will be manning the booth this year. So If you will be at PAX East April 5 - 8 in Boston, stop by and say hello! =]

SO WHAT DID YOU WORK ON LAST MONTH?

Bug fixing, new level art, and continuing to build out scenes from the early chapters of the game. There's a few things we worked on this month that I really want to show you, but the are yWAY too spoilery! So in the meantime, check out these new scenes, art, and the journal customization mode!

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

Chapter one is pretty dense, as we set up the characters, the world, and the catalyst for Jenny's adventure! So next month will be about building out the author scenes, building final art and layout for the prologue, and knocking out the rest of the interactions in chapter one.

WRAP UP

As always, thank you for your continued support and patience! Until next time detectives!
