Welcome detectives, to another monthly update!

I hope you enjoyed new gameplay trailer and get a sense of the scope of the silly and spooky adventure that Jenny will be going on. It makes me a little teary eyed seeing it all together like this. Anyway! If you missed it last time you can check it out below.

Alright, so...

WHAT DID YOU DO THIS PAST MONTH?

I took Jenny LeClue to PAX East to show the new gameplay trailer and share the game with friends and fans both old and new, and talk shop with other game dev and press. It was really cool being among a handful of games that won the PAX East Indie Showcase. This year PAX East was four days with over 80,000 people attending. CRAZINESS! Of course I came down with some kind of convention cold on day one of the show, but I rallied by the end. Feedback was great and super motivating as we enter this homestretch to launch! I was also overjoyed at how broad the age range of fans were, from 2 to 60. Fun times!

Thanks Boston!
Thanks Boston!

As soon as I returned and recovered from Boston, it was right back to work on the game. We managed to wrap the layout for one of the biggest scenes in the game, when Jenny "borrows" Suzie's boat. Ben animated some new cinematics and fixed a bunch of lingering bugs in one of the earlier scenes that we found in playtesting.

Enough banter! Check out some of what we worked on!

WHAT'S NEXT?

I've got to get the prologue together. It's written and designed, but not yet laid out. Then I'll move to finish the lakeside scene from chapter one. There's a ton of characters in that scene, so quite a bit to do there as well. Ben is working on some very cool mysterious mini-scenes that occur on the lake. Spoiler alert! I MIGHT share a gif or two from those next month! =]

Until next month super sleuths!

CASE NOTES

Hello fellow detectives and welcome to another update! First, Let's start with some...

SUPER COOL NEWS!

SO WHAT DID YOU WORK ON LAST MONTH?

Bug fixing, new level art, and continuing to build out scenes from the early chapters of the game. There's a few things we worked on this month that I really want to show you, but the are yWAY too spoilery! So in the meantime, check out these new scenes, art, and the journal customization mode!

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

Chapter one is pretty dense, as we set up the characters, the world, and the catalyst for Jenny's adventure! So next month will be about building out the author scenes, building final art and layout for the prologue, and knocking out the rest of the interactions in chapter one.

WRAP UP

As always, thank you for your continued support and patience! Until next time detectives!

Two Projects You Should Back RIGHT NOW!

Hey gumshoes! I don't normally do this, but, there are two awesome projects on Kickstarter right now I really think you should check out!

GENESIS NOIR

The first is Genesis Noir, which has less than 13 hours to go on their campaign! It's a beautiful cosmic adventure ( like SO beautiful ). Seriously, just back it already!

Don't you want to see where this cosmic adventure goes?!

The second project is from Thomas Brush who previously created Pinstripe!

ONCE UPON A COMA

He's JUST launched a campaign for his new game Once Upon a Coma. It's just as gorgeous as Pinstrpie, and I look forward to seeing where Thomas and his team take the game!

Thanks again for checking out these awesome projects by great creators! I've already backed both of them and I hope you do too! =]

Until next time detectives!

-Joe

PS - As a thanks for checking these projects out, here's a sneak preview from next month's update!

CASE NOTES

Hello fellow detectives and welcome to another update! First, Let's start with some...

SUPER COOL NEWS!

Jenny LeClue - Detectivu was featured by both The Guardian AND IGN as a hotly anticipated indie game and unmissable culture of 2018! Pretty humbling and awesome! =]

SO WHAT DID YOU WORK ON LAST MONTH?

Ben and I have been working our way through scenes in chapter one, making sure the start of the game feels as rich and engrossing as possible. We tweaked Jenny's introduction scene to better show the dynamic between Jenny and her mom. I also started working on the library scene which required a lot of new art. Much of the art I made was modular and can be reused and repurposed for several other indoor scenes. Ben made a lot of nice animation and tweaks to several mini games and systems allowing for better interaction and finer control of the way we tell the story. He's also been making a ton of great interactive cinematics!

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

Ben and I will keep working our way through all the scenes in chapter one, making sure they feel tight and engaging! I'm finishing laying out the Library scene in, then to revisit and finish the other scenes from chapter one. Ben will be following along and laying in the gameplay, dialogue, cut scenes, and fixing my sometimes messy organization. =]
