Hi, we’re Mogees, a multi-award winning music and technology company from London. We’re excited to introduce our latest product.
Mogees Play is an ingenious smart sensor that attaches to a phone or tablet and turns the world around you into an interface for playing games, creating music and much more.
Mogees Play is also an educational tool too. It’s been specifically designed with core Music Key Stage skills from the UK National Curriculum in mind. Pulse teaches you the essential skills of rhythm, timbres, velocity and melody which can then be directly used in Jam to create your own grooves.
Mogees Play comes with three new and totally FREE apps - Pulse, Jam and Keys and we will also be giving Mogees Play owners new software as a FREE service, including new apps and features as they are developed, letting you create, game and learn anytime, anywhere.
Play the World...with our three new apps
No need for controllers, joysticks or keyboards. No need for instruments either. Just plug in Mogees Play and fire up one of our free new apps to experiment, game, and record music using real world objects.
1 - Pulse
Pulse is an addictive rhythm game with multiple levels which takes the player through varied genres of music, subtly teaching the basics of rhythm, timbre and velocity, from simple dance beats to more complex styles from around the world.
2 - Jam
Jam lets you create the music you want, providing accessible tools for instantly build rhythms and loops using the acoustic properties of any object the Mogees Play device is attached to.
3 - Keys
Keys lets you create melodies, arpeggios and chords. You can easily experiment with melodic sequences and a huge amount of harmonic variety through simple note and mode selection. (for iOS only)
How it works
Mogees Play is a small and portable sensor, just slightly bigger than a soda-cap, that turns any hard surface into a unique interface. Start by plugging Mogees Play into your smartphone or tablet and then stick to an object nearby, like a table or park bench or tree or even another person. Mogees Play senses the vibrations you make when you touch the object, recording information like impact strength, speed, timbre and length. This information is then interpreted by our apps and transformed into actions or sounds on-screen.
Why we created Mogees Play
We’re passionate about creating new ways for people to enjoy and experiment with music.
That’s why we launched Mogees Pro last year. Today, Mogees Pro is used by professional and advanced musicians all over the world to create unique recordings and live performances, including the likes of Brian Eno and Rodrigo y Gabriela.
And now, with Mogees Play, we want to open up music to even more people whatever their ability or interest, through gaming and playing using the real world. Here’s what the Mogees team have to say:
Learning with Mogees Play
Mogees Play is an educational tool too. It’s been specifically designed with core Music Key Stage skills from the UK National Curriculum in mind. Pulse teaches you the essential skills of rhythm, timbres, velocity and melody which can then be directly used in Jam to create your own grooves.
We believe that music plays a vital role in supporting development, social interaction and self-expression. The therapeutic benefits of music has also seen it be used to treat stress, depression and anxiety. This is why we support the use of Mogees Play by professional music therapists and are offering special pricing plans to educational and therapeutic organisations.
What do the experts say?
We count some of the world’s most exciting figures in music, tech and gaming as our advocates, and we have support from leading music teachers and music therapists. Here’s what some of them had to say:
"I've seen all kinds of music tech for consumers and Mogees Play is genuinely innovative. When music was first recorded, people listened to it. Then with music videos, people watched music. Technology now allows people to interact with the music they love. And Mogees Play is accessible and affordable enough that anyone can use it. If you love music, you need to give this a try."Charles Huang
The future: sharing the tech & opening our API
We want to give as many people as possible the chance to create with Mogees Play - which is why we’re sharing our technology and opening our API, allowing developers to invent new ways to inspire, entertain and teach with the device.
Developers and students will be able to use our API for iOS and Unity and access our library for real-time signal processing, machine learning and gesture recognition to create their own Mogees Play apps.
We can’t wait to see how our community hacks Mogees Play, whether it's finding new ways to play Flappy Bird...
...or turn lights the lights on and off
We will also be giving Mogees Play owners new software as a free service, including new apps and features as they are developed :)

During his PhD in computer science and music, our founder Bruno Zamborlin got tired with the limitations of making music in the studio and at home. So he came up with the idea of a portable device that could turn any object into a musical instrument.
After years of research and development at IRCAM in Paris, he moved to London and founded Mogees Limited.
Mogees Pro - our first product - was launched on Kickstarter raising a total of £198,944. Mogees Pro is now used by professional musicians, producers and DJs around the world to bring performances on stage and in the studio to life.
Mogees Pro has also been used to play everything from a car...
...to the BBC Broadcasting House.
How it's different to Mogees Pro
Mogees Pro was designed for professional and advanced amateur musicians. Mogees Play is a lighter, simplified version designed for a wider audience of gamers and musicians of any ability.
By incorporating technological improvements and further innovations, Mogees Play hardware has been designed from the ground up and is perfect for a range of applications, from playing games to creating music.
Our unique technology
Mogees technology applies the power of machine learning to gestural recognition, allowing any object to be converted into a playable musical instrument or controller with virtually no time delay.
The Mogees sound engine in our apps uses the vibrations sensed by the Mogees Play device as the input to feed a virtual resonant model, which replicates the vibration patterns found within natural materials such as glass, metal, and wood. As the quality of the sound remains intact on the output, the nuanced differences between the scratch of a nail and the thud of a thumb can be heard and interpreted by the app on your smartphone or tablet.
