This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, April 5 2019 6:59 AM UTC +00:00.
Introducing a richly designed tarot deck featuring full-color reproductions of seventy-eight original oil paintings by San Francisco Bay-area artist Lacey Bryant. The Slow Tarot is the result of a personal art project that spanned over six years—a long labor of love—realized through the careful and methodical creation of an original work of art for every card in the tarot deck.
Lacey's love of tarot started at a young age, and continues today through her careful and thoughtful interpretation of each card. The Slow Tarot reminds us to take our time, as the artist took her time, and to consider the deeper meanings behind the symbols and archetypes within.
The Slow Tarot deck features 78 full-color tarot cards printed on 310gsm linen paper. The cards have a slight texture which makes them both tactile, durable, and easy to shuffle. Included in each order is a dedicated guidebook produced by the artist specifically for this deck. This limited-run, first-edition of the deck is only available through Kickstarter, and includes a certificate of authenticity signed and numbered by Lacey Bryant. The deck ships in a full-color tuck box, featuring an alternate version of 'The World'. Our goal with this project was to create a high-quality tarot deck that can be enjoyed for years to come. As each card features a unique painting, you will essentially own 78 mini prints of the artwork. The deck is suitable for both beginners, enthusiasts, and the advanced tarot reader, and also makes a great gift for those interested in art.
Each suit in the deck is identified by a color, and the elements of fire, water, air, and earth are reflected in the colors chosen for the borders. The Aces have also received special treatment, and have been designed completely borderless. The back of every card is identical, and features a beautiful line drawing designed by Lacey.
Lacey Bryant is represented by Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, and has partnered with us on this project. Over the years, we have worked together on numerous shows and projects over her career. This particular series, which began in 2012, shortly after her first solo exhibition at the gallery, has grown in scope and ambition in the ensuing years. During the long time these paintings were being produced, the artist created works for 4 major solo exhibitions and more than 15 group exhibitions at Modern Eden, along with residencies in 2016 and 2017 at Chalk Hill. Throughout, she always found time to return to the tarot. There are reflections of her life and her community in every card, and while the process has been slow, it has been full of intention.
Last year, we began to talk about how best to showcase the work, and the idea to put on an exhibition at the gallery and to crowdfund a deck was born. Lacey's goal of the project has always been to create a deck of tarot cards featuring the artwork, and with the production and design resources provided by the gallery and successful funding by backers we are hope to to make this dream a reality. Together, we are bringing this to Kickstarter in order to reach the widest possible audience, to engage new fans, and to provide the most exposure for Lacey's beautiful work.
Decks will be printed immediately following the closing of the Kickstarter campaign on April 4, and will ship to project backers by April 16. If you are interested in owning, we highly recommend purchasing now, as we are offering special presale pricing on this collectible first-edition when purchased during the campaign, and a (Kickstarter-exclusive) signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. We are very confident in the funding goals for this project, and will commit to publishing the deck regardless of the outcome on Kickstarter.

Project Update: Backer Survey Results
Posted March 21, 2019
We can't thank you enough for your responses to our survey. It helped make our decision much easier to know that so many agree. We have decided to go with thinner borders. Our reasoning for the borders was mirrored by many in the comments, as we have been reluctant to crop or overlay the images with text. We feel that reducing the border width best incorporates the majority feedback while preserving the integrity of the artwork.
Here's a peek at the redesigned ten of wands, and the knight of cups. :)
A reminder that this will be the first-edition, and will include a numbered certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
Stretch Goal #2: $50,000
A nearly unanimous decision was made for gold foil! Our next stretch goal means that we will have a gold foil option for the cards. We don't anticipate charging anyone for this. Our goal is to incorporate the foil in subtle, yet elegant manner. We are working on samples at the moment and will be releasing details shortly!
Stretch Goal #1 Achieved!! $20,000
Thank you so much for your support! All backers will now receive:
A 2-piece full-color rigid box:

Risks and challenges
If your order is placed in the final few days of the campaign and we sell significantly over goal, we run the risk of not getting everything shipped out by April 16. Our goal is the get all the Kickstarter orders shipped out before the solo exhibition opens on April 20, at which point decks will be made available to the public at the regular price of $50.
Should the Kickstarter not fund, the decks will still be produced by the gallery, but will not be available at the presale price and may not include a certificate of authenticity.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
