****FORMERLY ALPINE START CAFE BUT HAD TO CHANGE NAME TO MOBILE MOUNTAIN CAFE DUE TO TRADEMARK LAW. VIDEO WAS SHOT BEFORE NAME CHANGE.***
I am starting a mobile coffee truck, Mobile Mountain Cafe, that will service Salt Lake, Park City, and the Heber Valley. The coffee truck buildout is almost complete! We had our preliminary launch at the Women on the Road Van Life Gathering in Taos and attended Shred Fest at Liberty Park. Both were wildly popular and we cannot wait to participate in more awesome events. We are hoping to secure funding to complete the coffee truck by the end of November!
I have so many fond memories of moments spent in coffee shops - and having good coffee makes all the difference! We are unique from other coffee trucks because we will partner with local coffee shops rather than competing with local coffee shops by selling our own roasts. We work together with local cafes to supply their coffee. The idea is to serve as the vessel that gets speciality local coffee in the hands of our community outside of the coffee shop. This collaboration is also great exposure and marketing for coffee shops in the community!
We will offer gourmet hot cocoa and caffeine free teas for the non-coffee drinkers in the community. In addition to specialty drinks, Mobile Mountain Cafe will sell our very own "Mountain Munch Mix" which is a tasty trail mix with chocolate covered espresso beans for the magic ingredient!
I am an avid skier, climber, mountain biker, and outdoor gal with a knack for entrepreneurial creativity. When I am passionate about an idea, I chase it, whether it is an adventurous trip, neat opportunity, or business endeavor. I had the coffee truck vision less than six weeks ago and I've already accomplished so much as a sole proprietor! I am fortunate to have an incredible network of friends who have helped support me along the way. In order to keep progressing this startup, I need your help financially to make this successful.
Kickstarter funding will be used to help pay off the van, complete mandatory food truck modifications, install new suspension for van, purchase cafe equipment, and buy the rad Kickstarter rewards!
I grew up in mountain towns and have a deep love for cold mornings accompanied by a hot thermos of coffee. When I prep my pack for a day in the backcountry or drive up to the ski resorts, I make sure I have the proper equipment and coffee is always on the list. I know I am not the only one with this mountain morning ritual. Outdoor recreation and coffee go hand-in-hand! Mobile Mountain Cafe will set up at outdoor recreation and industry locations such as; trailheads, ski parking lots, climbing gyms, gear stores and other related events in the community. Quality coffee paired with the 'good vibe' experience is what keeps customers coming back for more. Mobile Mountain Cafe will be your 'good vibe, good brew' stop.
Risks and challenges
Operating from a vehicle can be risky and expensive!
The Mobile Mountain Cafe coffee truck is an old 2006 Ford Ambulance conversion. Because this is such a unique rig, repairs and revocations can be super difficult and pricey. Although I had it inspected by mechanics before purchasing the vehicle, they overlooked a very important issue- the suspension is not strong enough for the weight of the box structure. I learned this the hard way by experiencing a tire blow on the end of a 11 hour drive to an event in Taos, NM. Stranded in Taos over a weekend, it took local mechanics a long time to figure out the issue. I had to buy two new tires in addition to labor fees and temporary fix that would allow us to safely drive back to Salt Lake. Another mechanical error we experienced on this trip was the diesel mixer broke down causing us to loose drive power and efficiency. Although expensive, these are luckily fixable issues that will not impede the coffee truck business!
Another challenge is having reliable power to operate all the cafe equipment. While at the event in Taos, we were operating on shore power. The power at the venue went down so we had to switch to our backup generator. Ideally, we will operate off solar power and use shore power and our generator as backup. Ensuring various power sources are available is essential for the success of the business.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
