In 2016 I turned a vintage camper and ambulance into a mobile podcast studio and I want you to come along on this ride. This road trip broadcasts real talk with artists about the business side of creativity. I'm Lucas Spivey and I’ve driven 22,000 miles and met with thousands of artists across 42 states... and now you can ride shotgun or bring this podcast to your town!
When I found this camper in The Dalles, Oregon, it was full of bullet holes and bee hives. The ambulance had been sitting in Montreal, Québec gathering dust for decades. I rebuilt everything by hand, wired up solar power, and filled it with custom art & design to host inspiring conversations. The 1st season of 13 podcasts showed the diversity of how artists, designers, performers, writers and makers approach business. My guests included a Project Runway winner, the founder of Public Radio Exchange, the founder of Punk Rock Aerobics, lawyer/artist hybrids, and mom and pop shops too.
We all have a visionary artist or entrepreneur in our lives... they need to be a part of this podcast road trip! At the launch of this Kickstarter, we’re rolling out weekly episodes for our 2nd season. Our first episode with Xulu Jones deals with the creative relationship with hardship. Check out Culture Hustlers on iTunes, Stitcher, Soundcloud, or Spotify.
I like burgers, bourbon and dogs. I was born in MN, raised in rural WI, AK, SC and GA, and live between WA and MA. I'm a BFA/MBA, a teacher, and a wanderlust. I've consulted with hundreds of individual artists and organizations like Harvard, Arts & Business Councils, Ringling College, and more. But mostly I just like to drink coffee and talk about life!
