All you need to do is ask yourself one question.. what can you get stucktoU? Project stucktoU is a simple design that was originally created for a different but also a convenient way to hold your keys on the wall. Multiple versions were created during the development of the project. During the process I gave them to friends to try out. It turns out that they decided to not only use them for their keys but they also found many other uses around the house and office!
Some items that I've found that work great with stucktoU:
- Bobby Pins
- Sewing Pins
- Kitchen Utensils
- Magnet on the fridge
- Paper Clips
- Dog Collar/ Leash
The Development Process
- Step 1 - Buy lots of magnets
- Step 2 - Throw keys at magnets
- Step 3 - Buy stronger magnets
- Step 4 - Throw keys at stronger magnets
- Step 5 - Buy even stronger magnets
- Step 6 - Throw keys at even stronger magnets..they stick!
The next step for stucktoU is to move from the prototype phase into production. I have been working with multiple injection molding facilities to find the best manufacturer for the design. Once funds are raised I will pull the trigger on tooling and begin the manufacturing process!
The hardest question that I've come across during the design phase is what color(s) do I make these? how do I choose the color that is going to work for everyone? Then I realized, why should I choose when I can let you choose what YOU want!
Here's how it works. I have already determined that I will be producing stucktoU in White, but it's up to you to choose the additional 4 colors. For every $5 pledge you can vote for one of the colors below. For the $12 pledge, the color stucktoU you request will also count as a vote. When you submit your pledge, pick your color (1 through 20) from below:
*You will have the ability to vote once goal is reached.
NOTE: Actual color of parts may very slightly from color on screen.
- STRETCH GOAL 1 - $4500: Additional options of screen printed parts such as below
- STRETCH GOAL 2 - $5500: Custom packaging designed for project
A disclaimer from the magnet supplier:
Handling the magnets with care is necessary to prevent personal injuries and property damages.
The strong magnetic fields of neodymium magnets can damage items such as television, computer monitors, credit cards, bank cards, computers, diskettes and other data carriers, video tapes, mechanical watches, hearing aids, loud speakers and vcrs. Pace-makers may be damaged or switch to "test mode" in the presence of a strong magnetic force, if a pace-maker is in use, keep a minimum of 3 feet distance.
Risks and challenges
With any new design or product there are unforeseen risks and challenges associated with it. As a product designer, I have come across most of the issues that can occur during the manufacturing process at some point in the past, so I'm well equip to handle them. If there are any set backs or delays with the project, I will do my best to solve the issues and keep everyone who is supporting me updated with it's progress to the best of my ability. To help reduce any issues that might occur during the assembly phase with such a powerful magnet, I intend to do all of the assembly and packaging myself to ensure that stucktoU is of the highest quality prior to it being sent out.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
