Lexington's March Madness Marching Band (MMMB, www.m-m-m-b.com) is thrilled to have been invited to perform in the Honk! TX festival of activist street bands (www.honktx.com), in Austin, March 11-13, 2011.
MMMB is an all-volunteer group, though many among us make their living as artists. Other band members have day jobs as teachers, librarians, public servants, computer programmers, customer service specialists, project managers, and small business owners. A 4-day trek from Kentucky to Texas presents a huge economic hurdle to our magic music-makers. More about us: http://www.youtube.com/watch...
First and foremost, we seek funds to charter a bus to take 40-50 performers to Texas, and we would love to be able to subsidize other travel expenses. Total costs for transportation and housing will probably top $10,000.
In addition to using this great Kickstarter tool, MMMB will raise money through a "Road to HONK!" event on Saturday, February 19th, at Buster's Billiards & Backroom. Check out the awesome collectible event poster designed by artist John Lackey:
MMMB is incorporated in Kentucky as a nonprofit corporation. We are in the process of applying for federal tax-exempt status (under section 501(c)(3)). Since we are applying soon after our incorporation, if this status is granted, it will apply retroactively. Individuals may deduct from their federal income taxes monetary gifts made now to MMMB.
If people who give MMMB money receive something of value in return, the fair market value is not deductible. That is, if you pay for one of our fabulous rewards packages, the government does not consider that a charitable contribution -- instead, it's a great deal!
We are grateful for your support!
