About this project
Environments that encourage reasonable discussion of religious issues are rare, and even more so on the modern Internet. The subject, though a viable one which has been discussed and debated by learned and humble minds throughout history, is considered taboo in many locations due to the unproductive and acrimonious arguments typically generated. Too many online communities face the constant pressure of moderating these issues and productive debate on these topics is very difficult to achieve. How the Disputatum Engine Works
Zeal will use the proprietary ‘Disputatum’ engine to overcome many of the traditional problems of these sorts of discussion community. Comments will be moderated by our staff to some extent, but more importantly will have constant moderation by the community in the form of ‘Zeal Points’. Zeal points are used to vote in favor or against various posts, but unlike traditional forum ‘Karma’ systems the rating’s effect will be heavily modified by your habits and behaviors. Users who continuously ‘dislike’ a single opposing religion, for example, will face the law of diminishing returns and find that prejudicial voting decreases in power over time. Conversely, players will be encouraged to obtain diverse ‘likes’ for their posts in order to make their overall impact in the community more powerful.Keeping in mind player-created religions are supported, the default religions are:
Agnostic, Atheist, Baha’i , Buddhism , Christianity, Confucianism, Hindu , Islam , Jainism , Judaism , Shinto , Sikhism , Taoism
From a marketing perspective, this game will allow players to join for free and only those with a desire to express their opinions in a more concentrated fashion will ‘need’ to use the premium service or micropayment system. Cross-connectivity with social networking platforms such as Facebook and Google+ will allow players to encourage friends who share their faith to join them in various in-game projects such as prayers or causes.
By default, the 'Disputatum Engine' limits postings and 'votes' per day to an acceptable level, preventing over-zealous individuals with excesses of free time from dominating the discussion. Players who contribute to the game financially through the use of the micropayment system will obtain additional 'Zeal Points' which allow them to participate additionally in the discussion. Alternately, players who are consistently 'upvoted' by the populace have an expanded pool of 'Zeal Points' with which to contribute. The 'Zeal Point' mechanics can be easily modified as the game community grows in size, and will be expanded as resources and programmer time allow. Our Ideal Goal
We are hoping that by encouraging reasonable discourse in this otherwise contentious arena, that we will be able to foster new levels of understanding on the core issues that divide people of various faiths, as well as encouraging people to exercise their rhetorical, logical, and persuasive skills online. The added impetus of ‘Zeal Points’ will encourage posters to represent their ideas clearly and to appeal to a wide range of individual viewpoints.
