#Make100: A Pocket-Sized Guide to Berlin’s Café Scene

Whether you’re visiting Berlin or have lived here for a while, you’ll most likely never run out of places to see. New cafés, bars, and neighborhood hangouts are popping up everywhere. It’s hard to keep track. Every neighborhood has some exceptional spots that are worth discovering.

I’ve been living in Berlin on and off since 2013 and have called nine or ten (I lost count) apartments my home at some point. I regularly needed to readjust my everyday and make a new café a part of my routine. Back in those days, I also worked for a startup that couldn’t afford an office (I know, very Berlin), so we’d hang out in all sorts of cafés around town. We loved getting a new perspective of the city every day, which is what I’d love to share with you.

Often, people ask me for tips. Being Viennese, I have a thing for hanging out in coffee houses, which you already know if you follow me on Instagram where I’ve been sharing what I see around me since 2011. Now, and six years later I’d love to share my 50 favorite café tips from Berlin with you. I’d love to invite you to discover the city with me.

I chose this format because I find it much more practical than a book. You can easily carry a few or even the whole box of cards with you in your pocket or purse to pull out whenever you need inspiration for where to go in the city.

In this guide, I’ll tell you where you can get a coffee for free (if you buy a book), where it’s easy to talk to strangers, where to get the best brunch after a hangover, or what place is close to some of the most worthwhile sightseeing spots.

You might have seen my Vienna guide that I funded here on Kickstarter just a few weeks ago. The reason why I’m now also publishing a Berlin guide is because the project wouldn’t feel complete if I didn’t pay the same tribute to both cities.

Join me on a tour around Berlin, the city that values self-initiative, independence, good food, and coffee. Here are the top spots where I order an Americano. What will you have?

Risks and challenges

I already have all the photos, the text written and reviewed, so I’m more or less ready for production. Given my plan is to have the cards printed by MOO, it should be relatively risk-free.
