#Make100: A Pocket-Sized Guide to Berlin's Architecture

Would you like to discover Berlin and walk the paths less traveled? Are you looking for a guide that will give you insights you might not discover as easily in a mainstream travel guide?

Last year I moved back to Berlin and as I’ve been trying to make the city home again, I started looking at the buildings I’m surrounded by. The history of Berlin is complex; the wall and decades-long separation of east and west, the rapid growth and housing shortages the city’s been challenged by several times in the past. There are many fascinating, surprising, incredible stories I’d love to share with you.

Having studied interior architecture, looking at buildings is how I contextualise history. Wherever I travel, I look for buildings that allow me to understand what a city is really about. And usually, when I take friends with me, they just wonder, “How did you know about this?”

It’s a lot of research and it’s the research I’ve done for this city that if you’re into architecture and design, you’ll really enjoy.

Last year, I published a guide to Vienna’s coffee house culture and Berlin’s café scene. This year, I’m taking you on a field trip. I’ll tell you stories of how the city government changed the laws to accomodate for international architects, yet then decided not to follow the designer’s ideas. I’ll share stories of how complex 3D structures were designed by hand with just a pencil and normal rulers instead of a computer, which, if you ask me, will change how you see what you see. This guide will most certainly help you discover Berlin as you haven’t seen the city before.

If you’d like to join me on a tour through the city, please support this project!

Thank you so much!

Love,

Monika

Risks and challenges

I’ve successfully fulfilled five Kickstarter projects in the past and just like every January, I’m publishing a new project inviting you to join me on my field trips. The cards will be produced by Moo and thus are super high-quality.
