DRYCERATOP - 100% Solar Food Dehydrator for Mason Jars

We have a new product that we need your help to Launch: A Solar food dehydrator for Mason jars. It's called DRYCERATOP!
The mason jar is a great tool for making, preserving and experimenting with food now you can use it to dehydrate foods using 100% solar energy.
The DRYCERATOP is an amazing set of capabilities in an incredibly small, beautiful package. Conventional food dehydrators are huge, clunky, consume energy and cost a lot. DRYCERATOP is TINY and folds away into a drawer when not in use. It will never cost anything to operate for years of service!
DRYCERATOP uses 100% solar energy and can be brought anywhere! There are no batteries or circuitry - when the sun shines it just works. It's perfect for cooks, chefs, gardeners, foragers, hobbyists, outdoors people, scientists, prepers or herbalists. It works outside. Perfect for having fun in the patio, in the garden, on the live aboard boat, or for your #vanlife.
DRYCERATOP is made of wood! Wood is beautiful and renewable especially aspen a highly sustainable species. We make DRYCERATOP in Minneapolis and we don't want to cut large amounts of plastics in our shop. Kitchen products of wood fit our aesthetic. Increasingly people are returning to wooden spoons, spatulas rolling pins and we are into that!
WHAT TO MAKE
DRYCERATOP can dry almost anything. Many things like herbs, hops, potpourri, flowers, and mushrooms can simply be put into the jar and maintain their own airspace. Fruits like bananas, apples, apricots or vegetables like squash, peppers and tomatoes can skewered to maintain airspace. You may want to slice certain foods to increase the drying area. The same food and preparation goes for any dehydrator so you can use times and techniques found anywhere online.
Gardeners can preserve more food in less space by dehydrating the excess at harvest time. DRYCERATOP works even in cool weather so you can dehydrate all fall. Surplus food is cheap at harvest time, save money all year by preserving food from the farmers market at harvest time. Dehydrated vegetables are preferable to canned and make great flavorful nutritious ingredients for soups.
Herbalists will like that you can choose to dehydrate low and slow, minimizing the loss of fragile or volatile elements like fragrances or more elusive nutrients. This makes DRYCERATOP ideal for teas, seasonings or traditional medicines. All without using any energy from the grid!
HOW IT WORKS
DRYCERATOP is incredibly simple! The jar, set in the sun, heats up from solar gain. The solar panel powers a small fan. The warm circulating air can carry away the water in food quickly. The fan and solar panel will last for many years.
DRYCERATOP works with "wide mouth" standard Mason Jars.

HOPTOP is a mason jar Fermenting lid. It was funded on Kickstarter and has been successful ever since. We are offering the perfect pairing DRYCERATOP and HOPTOP in one reward. With this set you can brew, ferment, and dehydrate in Mason jars the options are limitless.
Science and STEM
DRYCERATOP has been thoroughly tested. It automatically creates perfect drying conditions when placed in full sunlight and faced towards the sun. If desired, higher temperatures can be achieved by putting a black card stock "solar collector" in the jars. Temperatures and relative humidity and airflow are comparable to plug in dehydrators. With a black sheet of cardstock we can achieve 120F+ with 60F ambient temperature. Relative humidity hovers between 5% and 15% Depending on many factors. Solar dehydration of food has many factors ambient temp, ambient humidity, surface area, surface membrane, and water content of food but also sun angle and atmosphere. These many variables make it very hard to characterize a general formula for how food dries but it has been done in many scientific papers. The most comprehensive we found is here.
In order to test DRYCERATOP we used and Arduino data logger. Temperature and Relative Humidity (RH) was logged to an SD card and graphed for 5 test cells. If this you are interested in the Science and STEM aspects of DRYCERATOP we will detail our process and arduino code on our website.

We have structured this to make a quick reward for those who support first. We will do one smaller batch of 100 while the kickstarter is live. All the parts are in-house and programs are running on the CNC machine. These first 100 also get a free HOPTOP!
All the other orders will go out soon after the campaign is funded and second orders will follow in a couple weeks. Shipped less than 60 days after funding. In time for garden harvest and farmers markets.
About exact appearance: We are going to make slight changes from the prtotypes that were photographed and filmed it will not affect overall appearance or function except to increase strength.
