A Quick Jaunt To The Store

Posted by Missing Worlds Media (Creator)

After a long day of heroism or villainy, you want to come home, relax, and lay back. Unfortunately, you completely forgot to stock up on food, and your space station cryogenic sustenance storage system is completely bare. What are you to do?

Why, you run, fly, ride, teleport, swing, climb, or strut over to to... the Speedmart!

But... you don't feel like cooking, so while travelling to the store, you decide on stopping at another local grocer which includes a cafe, Safari Jon's.

Unfortunately, you then get a call, another need for you. Lacking time, you grab a simple hotdog and go.

This is something that I felt City of Heroes could have done much better with for relatively little effort: you had all of the little 'flavor' businesses -- the Drunk Duck, City of Gyros, Infront Steakhouse, etc. -- but, except for the buildings that you interacted with as part of missions or leveling (i.e., hospitals, the enhancement stores, the government buildings in Atlas Park and Galaxy City, etc.), you as a hero were not allowed to enter any of the buildings.

Could you imagine having a characters Alter ego working as a grocery clerk.. What fun this is starting to look like. :)

oh, and I think I also see the meat section... yeah... pretty sure...

Okay, I think I can pick out the deli section, the regular shelves, the bakery, the fridge/freezer section, a bulk foods area (?)... but I'm not pegging the produce area. Heroes still need their spinach, don't they? =p

I'm just picturing one of my characters, who happens to be 7 feet tall with large hooved feet, browsing the shelves at the Speedmart. She goes in to stock up on food, but ends up helping old ladies retrieve items from the top shelf. Oh I cannot wait for this game already!

@Donal Hafner, I love the minotaur, too, reminds me of this boy:

Nice! We'll actually be able to enter establishments like this? Can't tell you how many times I passed the bowling alley in CoH, heard the strikes, and so badly wanted to enter ... so, dont forget the bowling alley. :)

As for the Gremlin .... my first car was a 77 Hornet - total rustpile, but it got me where I needed to go.

    8. Donald Hafner on

I love the minotaur walking back from the grocery store! :D

    9. Unjust on

Btw the other car driving looks like an AMX with its spoiler sticking out in the back. Methinks we have a AMC fan as an artist. Too bad there wasn't AMC Eagle as well, my buddy has one.

    10. Unjust on

The car is a pacer with its hatch open. The gremlin is at the bottom of the pic.

Should have made it a Pinto. Supers love Pintos. One-shot incendiary grenade.

    12. TNT on

One person noticed it, but thought it was a Pacer. One AMC car mistaken for another.

    13. SunHawk on

I am soo glad I backed this project. I know it will still be a while till I can log into Titan City but I can't wait !!!

    14. SunHawk on

Gremlin? It's kinda hard to pick him out.
      He's worse than Waldo, LOL

    15. SunHawk on

It's good to know I can always fly in, grab some grub and fly back to my penthouse apartment.

    16. Missing Worlds Media Creator on

All this and nobody notices the Gremlin in the parking lot....

    17. KinThalas on

Yay, shopping for food (inspirations?)! And Hot Dogs! I hope we can actually buy stuff there. That sounds silly, but it would increase the feeling of a real city.
And LOL at the Minotaur shopper! Did someone even notice the flying shopper up in the air? ;-)

    18. Stephen Dannell on

As @minotaur from CoH, the minotaur shopper amused me too :)

    19. Chris Kuminecz on

Speaking of attention to detail... Check out the logo on the Speedmart storefront: the silver age logo has been replaced by its next-generation version - but you can still see where the old logo (and its hexagons) used to be b/c the wall was never properly stripped and repainted. :D

    20. Chris Kuminecz on

the minotaur shopper got a cheer from me as well - once I finished whoop-whoop-whooping for the AMC Pacer parked to the right of him. >.<

      Shinard on

That is just awesome. This level of detail is what really makes me glad I funded this project, and I really hope you can actually buy food at these places (maybe as a temporary power-up?). Stupid, I know, but...

      shop...not buy

    23. Nos482 on

      Buy smart. Buy Speedmart.

    24. Unjust on

I love the hot dog cart!! That's what was missing from the boardwalk in Talos Island and P.I.

    25. David J Rust on

I just love the fact that there's a minotaur coming out of the Speedmart.

I am absolutely adoring the open-world feel you guys are developing. The attention to detail is really going to sell it. If this turns out half as awesome as you guys are making it out to be, I think the game will do really well. It might even grab people from other genres just due to the detail and love put in. :)

    27. Grasp - Control Freak Of Phoenix Rising on

I love it! I can't wait to see what else the future holds for City Of Titans.

    28. Michael O. on

      @Chris: LOL

Hope we'll actually be able to just wander through SPEEDMART for no reason ^_^

    29. Z.N. Singer on

Damn...the attention to no generics for our world, all these roles will have their own unique, made in a hero world brand. That's really amazing.

    30. Chris Kuminecz on

Ride? Strut? I hope these these are indicative of super-vehicles and the most swaggererrific walk toggle in all of MMOs. ;-)
