We present City of Titans, a spiritual successor for the superhero MMORPG City of Heroes, being developed by Missing Worlds Media.
5,003 backers pledged $678,189 to help bring this project to life.

Well, You Did It. You Blew It All To Oz.

The barrier’s broken. The walls are down. The walls are down, by the way, as they don’t exist in the new world we’re creating.

Monday. Over twenty days left.

It’s times like this I think back to my greatest role model, growing up, the person who taught me everything about how to be a leader. And I ask myself, how would he handle this?

I’m pretty sure Kermit The Frog would just panic up and down the backstage for a while, then straighten up and head out front, in a perfectly calm, if somewhat choked voice, and thank everyone.

So that’s what I’m doing. Thanking you all. Each and every one of you, you deserve it.

We don’t. Yet. We have to earn your thanks. You’ve given us credit ahead of any possible reason, you’ve given us your promises. We have to deliver.

And we will. In the upcoming days, you will see more from us. There will be new videos coming, and they will have things in it, glorious things. But beyond that, you will meet the denizens of the world we’re making. The ones you work with… or punch in the face. Sometimes both. You will get a tour of our planned infrastructure. The servers everyone asks about. They’re not physical anymore, of course, but we can talk about how we intend to handle them.

It’s going to take a while. We all know that. MMOs take a long time to launch, and we’ll probably slip a deadline or two. We will get other things out to you sooner. Parts, bits and pieces that are fun on their own, that will integrate into the final game. The Character Generator program comes first. Costumes and sliders and backgrounds. Possibly we’ll be able to fit other things into it, but I don’t want to count my chickens before I’ve irradiated their eggs with Kirbonium.

In short, my friends, today is your day. We’re just awestruck sitting here behind the curtain. And we’re working as fast as we can.

Someday, we hope to be worthy of the trust you’ve placed in us. I’ve placed my name and reputation on it.

I want to share with you one more thing. My personal motto. I picked it up from an author named Henry James. “We work in the dark - we do what we can - we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion, and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art.”

I hope that you understand that. I hope you understand that for all of us, this is jumping off a cliff with no net, just a pile of parts and some instructions in a language some of us understand. But it’s okay, because I’ve got a Vision, and we’ve all chosen to share it. We may fall on those rocks. They’re there. They’re real. But if we can get this flying machine going in time… there’s nothing in the verse that can stop us.

Part of what made the character creater so great was that it wasn't too complex like champions was.

    2. Angela Floyd on October 8, 2013

I'm so excited about City of Titans, and that excitement only grew when I learned that WARCABBIT was involved. It's been a long time since we worked together in PERC, but I remember you well and trust you to see this through. @Steele Magnolia

I get emotional when talking about City of Heroes. lol I admit it. It was my first MMO, and when it shut down, it left a hole that no other MMO could ever hope to fill. The idea that a spiritual successor could some day bring back those feelings of belonging to something more than just a game is why I back this project. That's what City of Heroes was to me - not just a game, but a community.

I got goosebumps watching the Thank You! video. City of Titans has given us all something to believe in again, and I think I can safely say that the way MWM feels about the supporters of this project is exactly how we supporters feel towards MWM.

Wonderfully deranged motto. Gooo Santa's elves! :) It makes me very happy to contribute. Myself, and 2000+ other reindeer.

"It looks like a dream book. Then you suddenly remember it’s all real. Then the long march from the rim of the cave to the edge of the cliff where we flung ourselves off and built our wings on the way down quickens to focus. It’s all here, in a building, in a book."

See you in our City of Titans, heroes!

    7. Floyd H. Lockhart III on October 7, 2013

Continue the pledges. You'll need every penny up there, plus more, for a really solid launch.

Don't kid yourself; many of us wants to come back and smite evil. Personally, I think your goals were too modest; every penny more that goes up there, is one more step to the future.

      Fly well and high, friends.

    8. DeathSentry on October 7, 2013

This is amazing, already exceeded "our" pledge amount.. this is just beautiful.. can't wait to fly the skies once again!! Hamidon (or whatever your new incarnation is), watch out! The heroes are back!

    9. Mandrake - NameSake Radio on October 7, 2013

You all completely deserve this. We believe, based on your works and professionalism to date that you will utilize the resources to the benefit of MWM and therefore providing City of Titans to us - the anxiously awaiting community :)

I know I already upped my pledge by a measly $10 for the early access sounds, but I think everyone is going to be pitching in everything they can. Not just during this Kickstarter either. I think you all can depend on this community for support as long as you need us. Most all of us are looking forward to a monthly subscription anyway!

    10. Clark Daggs on October 7, 2013

I speak only for myself, but to me this project represents a full rebellion against game publishing corporations who demonstrate that they view their supporters as resources to be exploited and not customers to be served. Every dirty thing they've done they've ultimately done with money we paid them.

Let this Kickstarter be the shot heard round he world.

As someone said earlier, hope is what your efforts have given back to us. Feeling uber-pumped and excited right now, and I know that with the passage of time, that giddiness will fade (only to resurface when the game launches) -- but the hope, well...the hope is gonna carry me through the wait. And I know I'm not alone. Rock on, MWM!

    17. Robin Harvey on October 7, 2013

That's what's so wonderful about a community backed project/product ... when you fall we'll be there to pick you up and dust you off. when you jump off the cliff we'll be there to catch you. exhibit A: The kickstarter. *hugs!

Do you have a Miss Piggy? ;)

    19. Diane Miller on October 7, 2013

Just a quick comment. Obviously we trust you and we're looking for great things. Just don't rush it. I can live with some slipped deadlines. Heck, take an extra year if you need it. Just don't put it up until it's something you're proud of.

      We'll be with you.

Also, for online play... can we a back up plan? if the Server goes down? would 8 or so people be able to get on a VPN or something?

Austin Loomis: the beauty of this project is, City of Titans only needs to be self-sustaining. It isn't necessary to try to be Number One, in any category. If that happens, that's just icing on the cake. ;)

Al Lucard: Also, if you have any other requests/suggestions, go over to the forums at, join up, and jump in! This thing is still being built. :D

    23. WesFoxx on October 7, 2013

This was a triumph. I'm making a note here; Huge success.
Its hard to overstate my satisfaction.

@Austin Loomis: With the initial goal shot through this fast, I thought it was better to look skyward. It's a bird, it's a plane, it's aiming to be the biggest video game Kickstarter *ever*, because even if it fails, every donation could go to speeding or expanding production - which we all want.

    25. Missing Worlds Media Creator on October 7, 2013

@Erik - if you check the video, we have three clips showing it.

    26. Austin Loomis
      on October 7, 2013

@Erik Ottosen -- If we're competing with anyone, it's other MMOs, in which case, here are the numbers to beat:
      * US$1,399037 -- combined total of Pathfinder Online and its tech demo.
      * US$2,232,933 -- Camelot Unchained
      * US$2,278,255 -- HEX MMO TCG

      We can do it!

    27. Erik Zolan on October 7, 2013

I hope you guys have the jump travel mechanic. It's my absolute favorite mode of travel in hero games.

    28. Jens L. Nielsen on October 7, 2013

You know what would be cool ?

An old armchair for the hero/villain's apartment, for all the backers. :)

      Armchair Heroes FTW. :)

    29. Craig E Ransom on October 7, 2013

And if between now and the end of the pledge period I can afford to, I'll upgrade my pledge!

I'm not one to jump into the forums such as this, but I'm going to make an exception here. You said, in the above statement, that you don't deserve the thanks you are offering to us. I disagree...and apparently quite a few other people do as well from the success in reaching the first goal and the way the numbers are continuing to rise. Yes, we reached into our pockets to give you the money you asked for....but that money was a self-serving action. We want our game. We want our community. We want our world. And you have taken it upon yourselves to grant those wishes. Without you, this project would have never come into being and this Kickstarter would have never happened. You gave us a cause to rally around...the possibility of once again walking the streets of OUR city, as heroes or as villains. We, your backers, your fans, and your future players, believe in what you are doing and your ability to succeed. To say you don't deserve the thanks is a misstatement at the very least. You see, through all this, you gave us the one thing that the curtain falling on CoH robbed us of most of all. Hope. That's what every dollar in that total represents...the hope that we will fly again. So...thank you.

Lookatitgoooo! Wow! I really need to think of something else to say besides "I'm so excited!" but, well, I am! Chris, the passion for this that shows through your writing is running through our veins as well. I hope there come to be many more fists in the air by the end of this fundraising period.

Oh, and Jeff Dodd- Bring it.

First, congratulations to MIssing Worlds Media and to my fellow backers.

Second, I's like to also express my interest in more variety of body types for female characters.

    34. Jeffrey Dodd on October 7, 2013

@Richard Clayton - We're heroes. This is what we do.

I'm a villain thru and thru killing heroes is what I do. Funding this game gives me the opportunity to stalk, maim and butcher heroes with my sg all over again.

This time last year there was emptiness. Now I have a dream, hope and the beginning of a new family.

@Al Lucard - Children may impose some export issues (can't have it in Australia IIRC, we are still checking) but huge/hulking women is very much on the roadmap.

      MWM...Set Sail. Take Us Home!!

    41. Al Lucard on October 7, 2013

First.. a serious question. One big complaint I recall from the CoX avatar creation was the lack of "child/teen" and "Monstrous/Hulking Women" avatars. Is this something you hope to address, by offering those body shapes?

Second, I make the request that "Kirbonium" be a "real" radioactive substance in this universe.. it just *has* to... lol

Another way to think of this: Almost 1/10th of the way to outscoring Mighty No. 9, and 1/10th of the way through the Kickstarter.

The question is what stretch goals you can name now. :D
