Hi Friends and Family! It's time for me to make my own album...
What is "Songs for Miriam"?
We're so excited to make this record! The music you heard in the video above is from the demos that we've made over the last year and a half of songs that were written for me and given to me by some of my dear friends who also happen to be some of Vermont's most beloved and respected songwriters. The songs were given to me specifically for this, my first solo album, and were created with my voice and who they see me as in mind. These folks write some of my favorite music ever. Whether we've shared the stage, collaborated on projects or just share in mutual admiration, they all wanted to help me realize my dream. I am so very grateful and so happy to tell you that this collection of songs from these accomplished songwriters will blow you away!

My dear friend, musician/producer Peg Tassey, is producing the record, and we are working with the best of the best to give this record a unique flavor while bringing together music from diverse backgrounds and creating a cohesive body of work.
I come from an island background. My father is from Cuba and my mother's roots are from Newfoundland. Both make for a strange combination of hot and cold, both places coming from a rich history of sea captains, music and codfish. Growing up in rural VT often felt like an "Island" to me and the one thing that has always made me feel deeply connected, not just to my roots but to the world outside, has been music. Whether I am listening to a Rhumba, Soul, Rock, Jazz or Traditional Folk song I feel it deeply within the history of my cells. It's that place where I feel the most joy.
I am passionate about music. I love to sing, to have that space inside of me where expression can run openly and freely. I've been singing on some of the most beautiful albums and on some of the best stages in Vermont for over 10 years. Of the hundreds of concerts I've done, here are some you may know about:
- I played Persephone in Anais Mitchell's Folk Opera Hadestown
- Lead singer in Michael Chorney's tribute band to SunRa, Magic City
- Band leader and lead singer for the Latin folkloric group Amapola
- Lead singer in the 10 piece Salsa band Afinque
- Lead singer in the all female 9 piece Rock Steady band Steady Betty
- I sing in various formations of duo's and trios with many of the musicians I've played with over the years
My musical life has been very rich and expansive, everyday I am grateful and want to stay in progress of learning and expanding my heart, my craft, my life.
We would love for you to be a part of making this record in any way that you can.

A bit of history about the project from Peg
I have had the great honor to have worked with Miriam over the last 2 years. When I wrote to all the songwriters to ask if they would be interested in writing a song for her, the overwhelming positive response was really moving. Miriam and I were both reading their responses in tears. I think Miriam's beautiful spirit and how it shines out through her voice has really touched so many people. Audiences everywhere absolutely! ... And the music community as well.
It took us a year to collect all the songs and they came from all kinds of backgrounds everything from Rock to Jazz, to Blues, Country, Gospel, Folk, Indie and Avant-garde. Then it took 6 months to start fleshing the songs out working with musicians Brian Clark, Bob Wagner, Josh Weinstein, Dan Davine and recording demos with Colin McCaffrey, who's support and enthusiasm was key to starting this project.
Next we will be putting together all different combinations of musicians to play on the record. As producer, each song informs me who will be just right for that song. You will be hearing drums and Hammond B3 organ w/leslie, choirs of singers, electric guitars, resonators, pedal steel and...well...you'll just have to hear it! This record will be like the records I loved as a kid, where every song written on the record was amazing. Side A, Side B...every single song. And we need your help to take this next step.
The songwriters testify:
Can I get a Hallelujah?
Where will the funds go?
It's no small thing to put out an album, there are many costs involved...
With your pledge I can record in a state of the art studio, work with my trusted Producer, pay and feed the amazing musicians on the album and myself while I am away from work to record the album, have it mixed and mastered and finally have an in the flesh album on cd and vinyl with artwork and booklet to go with them. Every dollar is accounted for.
Our baseline amount of $25,500 will pay for this:
- Recording and producing the album
- Musician & copyright fees
- Mixing & mastering
- Photography & design for the cover & liner notes
- Printing & duplication of the album
- Reward production costs and Kickstarter fees - They take 10% of what we raise!
If we were able to raise $35,000 we will also be able to make a beautiful Music Video to help promote the album and hire a Booking Agent so we can take this beautiful music out into the world at large!
