A digital version of the popular Euro-style board game The Manhattan Project for iPad, PC & Android
The Manhattan Project is a low-luck, mostly open information efficiency game in which players compete to build and operate the most effective atomic bomb program. Players will mine yellow cake, train workers, operate factories, use both reactors and enrichment plants, direct espionage against one another, and test The Bomb.Players do not “nuke’ each other, but they can direct conventional air strikes against the facilities of the other players. The Manhattan Project is a game of Cold War posturing.
This game features the worker-placement mechanic with a twist; There are no rounds and no end-of-round administration. When players run out of workers, or are otherwise forced to by game situations, they skip their turn and retrieve their workers. This allows the game to continue from beginning until end in a round robin fashion. So the game continues round-robin till the end.
Build the best "engine" for creating bomb fuel on your own player board.
Espionage actions allow players to activate and block an opponent's building, representing technology theft and sabotage.
Attack actions send squadrons of planes to bomb the buildings of other players and stop their research until repairs can be made.
Attempt to build the best "engine" for creating bomb fuel on your own player board.
We will be producing a DRM-free PC version, iPad version, and Android versions. You will be able to play multi-player between all these devices in the same game session. The game will be a nearly 100% accurate conversion of the actual board game.
The game runs on all iPad versions iOS5.1 or greater. It will run on modern versions of Windows (XP, 7 & 8) and most Android devices running 2.3.3 or greater.
NOTE: The iPad versions must be gifted through the Apple iTunes store and that has a lot of issues (like not being gifted outside of the USA) so the beta versions for these are limited. All iPad versions must be redeemed from the USA iTunes app store.
On the iPad...
On the PC - Networking
Actual play walkthru...
The AI comes in several flavors, allowing solo play with 1-4 additional AI players. We will be giving them personality icons and one of the high level rewards for this campaign will even allow you to be painted as one of those icons!
“Out of the box” you’ll be able to play this game in a LIVE ONLINE multi-player mode where each person takes a turn and then play passes to the next player’s turn. You can play with iPad, Android and PC versions together in one game. The game is live though so you must play till finished in one session.
Other methods of multi-player are in the works such at use of the Game Center on iPad, but they will take additional resources (see stretch goal).
Why the higher price?
In order to deliver iPad versions of the game we have to pay Apple 30% of the purchase price, Kickstarter 5% and Amazon another 5%. That's 40% off the top going to our trade partners :(
It takes 25k-50k just to program a game like this, so this campaign fully funded will not cover it all. Even at our higher price point of $10, it will take over 3000 backers to make this campaign a success. Most Kickstarter campaigns don't even reach 1000. So we will need all your support helping to spread the word of our game and help us get posted on news and blog sites.
Why the limited number of iPad Alpha & Beta versions?
Apple only allows 100 demo/test copies per developer and as such we can only make use of about 50 of those for this project. Since we don't have this problem with the PC or Android versions, they will have unlimited Beta keys we can give out.
Why are the Add-ons and shipping not deeply discounted?
Simply put, the reason for the add-ons in this campaign is to help fund this project and give you, our supporters, some value in return. We’ll be funneling the profit from the add-ons into the development of this digital version. That means Minion Games is not making much off the board game sales, but instead donating that profit to get this application made.
$40,000 - Game Center
We will add support for game center requests (match making) and achievements. We will attempt to implement delayed (async) multi-player but at this point we are unsure if we can promise it. We'll update you as we get closer.
$50,000 - Nations 1
We'll add the 7 nation cards from the very popular (and now out of print) Nations 1 expansion pack to the game. These act as virtual buildings that cannot be attacked or espionaged, but they add a ton of flavor and fun. These add game braking twists so are complicated to program.
$60,000 - Nations 2
We'll add the 7 nations from the Nations 2 add-on found in the Second Stage expansion to the game.
$70,000 - Advanced Tutorial
While we will include the rules and a basic tutorial to get you started in the game, some people enjoy buying an app to teach them the whole game. If we reach this stretch goal we'll make a tutorial that will teach you the rules for the whole game.

Review of The Manhattan Project - Board Game
Domowicz Creative Group is a micro studio specializing in custom entertainment software and boutique applications. DCG has a proven track record in delivering core technology and complete applications for iOS, Android and PC. They have agreed to develop this game to a beta state for this Kickstarter and will be paid to complete the game from the revenues generated here.
Creating a digital version of a game is a huge investment. As a small company we cannot afford the bill on our own. We utilize Kickstarter to help us raise the funds needed to deliver great games and to gauge the desire for products.
Minion Games has created many board games and accessories over the last 4 years, but being a small publisher (owned by 1 person and run by 3 part-time staffers) we find cash flow to be tight. Yet, we have more great games and accessories we wish to provide you! Thus, we come to all you, the Gamers, for assistance in helping us publishing more sooner!
Most of our games can be found in local stores near you or from our website:
You may also find many of our other games in Print & Play format here:
Please help us spread the word of our project on Facebook and Twitter.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We have successfully run 11 previous Kickstarter campaigns so please pledge with confidence.
There should be a minimum amount of risk as this game is already mostly developed. All the rules and actions are there to play through a complete game right now. Live multi-player also fully works. The developer wants to get paid though, so they will be taking the Lion's share of the earnings from this campaign.
Simply put, Apple will not allow us to gift an app to anyone outside of a country that we have a development account and valid business license. They will also not allow us to give someone the app outside of the iTunes store so they get their 30%. So we can only gift it to people who have an account on the USA iTunes app-store.
Once released the game WILL be on all world wide store fronts and you can buy it then. So if you want to see it make it to the app-store in your area, please help us at least spread the word of this campaign now.
We will have a simple download with a serial number to unlock. We are not using Steam or other such services.
This is to be determined yet. We'll see if we can get it tested to know for sure and what it takes to get on the Amazon app store.
Yes all these early rewards will also include the final release of the game for their platforms.
Just over-pledge (pay more then the asking amount) on the reward level you wish to get and we'll sort this out after the campaign is over using our Backerkit.com pledge manager. These is also true if you want different versions for those friends, just pick one reward to back, then pay extra. And thank you!
The game is playable on a Galaxy S3 (4.8" x 2.5") but may require a pointer instead of a fat finger. I would not recommend anything smaller then that.
