Current State of Shipping 3 Kickstarters

We've been shipping more days than the Post Office has even been open for over a month now, but we still have a few hundred orders to fill...
Last week we finished up all of the EU orders including those who had only partial left overs needed from Essen. We also finished up most all of the Future Coins orders and USA Dice orders (including retailers).

This week we've been working on getting out the LATE BIRD reward for the Future Coins campaign (those who ordered Hegemonic on the Coins campaign). That finished today and we've started doing the Foreign (Canada and non-EU) orders for people who participated in both the Hegemonic & Coins campaign. That should be done by late this week.

Next week we'll be back to the Dice campaign to fulfill the foreign (Canada & non-EU) orders.

Then comes the orders that already had their Hegemonic shipped early and still need coins/bags or dice from us.

THE BAD NEWS (for coin backers):

We've started to run out of some coins. Mainly cause of the people changing their orders in Backerkit after we placed our initial orders (which were all padded by over 40% more coins then needed) and cause of a huge amount of lost coins in the postal system.

As such, we're now totally out of 100,000s and 250s coins and expect to run out of 200s this week. Don't panic as most coins orders have been shipped, but some of you will get a note stating that we'll need your paypal account to refund you. We will be getting a very small amount back from Europe eventually (2-3 months) and a total restock of coins in about 6 months. Those who want to wait we'll try to work with.

Since we are out of these coins we can't make any more Collectors Sets. While we had some made, it's not enough to fill all orders. So we are only sending 1 collector set per order and refunding the rest at this point. Again, most orders already went out filled completely - this pertains only to the remaining orders.
I've done a spot audit... I find that 16% more 250s and 100k coins were ordered after 3/26/13 which is when we had to submit our order for the manufacturer. We actually ordered 45% more of those coins than the original counts. That should have left us about 30% extra coins then was ordered by backers. We did sell some for a short time on (they are off-line now) as we thought we had plenty. That only amounted to less then 1%. Some extras went to Essen to be sold and fill orders (again a small % of the overall) and more went to Germany for fulfillment, which they still have a small quantity left that will get routed back to the USA. The rest all we can figure went to the post office cause of lost/theft. We had to reship a lot of coins. At this point it looks like 15-20% of the coins went to the Post Office and not customers. Obviously we didn't count on that amount of loss and their "Insurance" is a load of crap as we've not gotten anything or heard any word from them after multiple claims.

So as you can imagine, we planned for issues but not this LARGE of an issue. We're sorry it's taking so long but the packing of the coins was much more of a headache then ever expected with nearly 2500 special hand picked custom orders.

I am in the states and a hegemonic backer. Is there any way I can find out if coins were sent to me?

"Let me repeat... more coins will come eventually, we'll gladly refund or ship those that were missing. No one is OUT of luck and never going to be happy - just more delays."

And its stuff like this which will have me ling back up for Minion stuff I want.

@Seth we have plenty of extra 1s and 5s as we ordered even more of those and have cases of them on hand. So we'd gladly swap for those coins if anyone wants. But you must email us and before you get shipped.

@Chirs, as stated we ordered 45% more coins then were ordered. As such we figured it would cover the extra changes in Backerkit - which it very much did. Hindsight is 20/20 - we (as any rational human) would not have thought that 30% extra would some how get wasted/lost.

So let me see if I get this: I am a Canadian backer that also backed the Futuristic Metal Coins, paid everything on-time, and didn't change my order at the last minute. But despite being a responsible Kickstarter backer and doing everything by the book and on schedule my shipment of coins will be missing certain denominations because Canadian orders didn't start shipping until after you ran out of coins?

Seriously, did nobody at Minion Games look at a spreadsheet of coins manufactured vs coins ordered and think weeks (months?) ago "Oh, look. We don't have enough coins for everyone. We should probably let people know in advance so they can adjust the number of coins they ordered to make up for the shortfall? And we should probably make sure that the earlybird KS backers get all of their coins first -- regardless of where they live -- and then start shipping to late bird customers once the first round of backers' orders have been fulfilled."

Geography is really the best factor you could use to determine who got what they paid for and who misses out?

Holy cow, these two Kickstarter campaigns have been one gigantic let-down. It's been delay after delay, and now a mess-up on your part costs me part of my order I was looking forward to. I thought Minion games was a reasonable, responsible company that valued their customers regardless of where they lived. But given the quality of these two campaigns I highly doubt that I'll ever be backing another one of your KS projects.

I don't mind that certain ones ran out, the 100,000 and 200 and 250 were all really just novelties anyway to me. I would however like to replace these with other values. I can see that causing the same problem that got us into this mess in the first place though. Are there any values that you have a surplus of? Perhaps we could trade out for that? Can we still adjust our backerkits?

Add me to the list of the dismayed about latecomers getting priority over backers. I am sorry this was a difficult choice and a difficult project. I still look forward to getting the coins I paid for, or at least as many of them as I can. I know you guys have worked hard and learned a lot of hard lessons. Sometimes it is better to work smarter than harder.

I guess the next update will tell us how you want to refund us the money for the coins you no longer have, because you sold them to people who didn't back the project, but you can't because you gave too many refunds to people who never even ordered anything from you...

    10. Michael Smythe on February 19, 2014

Let me see if I understand the latest update correctly. I am a Canadian and backed both Hegemonic and the Futuristic coins kickstarter and I chose to wait for the coins to cut down on shipping costs. But because I live in Canada, my game hasn't even shipped yet, and the people who bought it in the Futuristic Coins kickstarter will be getting it before I will?

I messaged Minion and was told on the 13th Canada orders had started shipping that week. Now today I find out they haven't started to ship at all yet. I apologize if this seems rather brash, but I'm getting very annoyed at how long it's taking to get a game that was supposed to be "Early delivery, be the first to play!".

I know I opted for one shipment with the game and the coins, but it is a bit strange to see the game on my FLGS shelf while I patiently await my KS copy... :)

    12. Michael Rooney on February 19, 2014

@"how could we even think it possible with ordering 45% more then we needed"

Not to sound brash, but you should have stopped letting people mess with their orders when you orderred from the manufacturer if there was even a possibility that you couldn't fill all the orders.

I hope in the future you aren't as disorganized with your kickstarters. The way the fullfillment process has gone for somebody that just wanted Hegemonic and enough metal coins to match the original set leaves a lot to be desired. You've had a lot of delays, and between the two kickstarters I've had to actively manage what should be a very simple order multiple times over the last year due to changes/removals of backer levels. Really hope you guys plan better next time because atm I'd have a hard time recommending kickstarting another one of your games.

    13. Mike Bridge on February 19, 2014

should we have gotten some kind of tracking notification if our coin order was sent? (i paid the extra $10 so i could get the game w/o waiting for the coins to ship).

...and I don't get why I should feel the consequences of people not filling out backerkits correctly. They should should be the ones getting their coins last, IMHO.

How disappointing. As one who opted to and paid extra get Hegemonic early, I'm on the last of the list to get my coin order. Now I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get my full coin order, as you are saying I'm last in line.... over the "LATE BIRDS "who purchased Hegemonic well after I backed it. Like Jack Stalica, I ordered a specific distribution to use in other games, The coins shouldn't have been on sale on the website in the first place & I could've lived without the Hegemonic bags, personally. So If I get a notice for a paypal refund, I'll likely opt out all together, and I'm glad I didn't pony up for the Go7 box. What a mess.

    16. John Turner on February 19, 2014

I've gotten neither Hegemonic nor the Coins yet :/

    17. Minion Games 27-time creator on February 19, 2014

AS we didn't know we'd run out (how could we even think it possible with ordering 45% more then we needed), There was no special priority given to anyone other then what we could handle/manage in the warehouse. Most of the Hegemonic + Coins went out already and Most of them go all they ordered. Some though did get shorted in the last couple days.

Did backers of Hegemonic get priority on the coins? Because I backed both and choose the coins I did as I want to use them also in another sci-fi economics game (2038) that has a VERY strict distribution of coins. If I don't get the right distribution then the whole point of getting the extra coins was for naught. I would hope that people who backed both of your companies projects would be first in line as especially valued customers.
