"The Compass" was originally created for The Dance Project, a dance concert that showcases new choreographers, held at Ballet Austin VentureStudio Theatre. All of The Dance Project's proceeds went to Dell Children's Hospital and the Seton fund, all out of Austin, TX. This piece was originally performed by Austin Metamorphosis Dance Ensemble, of Round Rock, TX (seen performing in the video).
After this premiere, "The Compass" was accepted into the DUMBO Dance Festival 2012, which is based out of Brooklyn, NY and takes place September 27-30th. This year's DUMBO Dance Festival will showcase 80 new and emerging choreographers from the USA and other countries. With a 4 day festival, and 4 performing locations in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Brooklyn Overpass), "The Compass" will be performed on the Main Stage, White Wave's John Ryan Theatre! (Date TBA soon!) And this is where WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
I will be re-staging this dance on dancers from Austin, TX and NYC over the course of the next few months. This leaves us with quite a bit of expenses that we need help with. These expenses include: travel to and from New York City, hotel expenses for our stay while in New York City during the Festival, rehearsal space in NYC (which we have found at a reasonable rate, but it still adds up FAST!), and a minimal stipend for the dancers (it is VERY minimal considering the time they are putting in with this dance for the next 4 months).
WE NEED YOU! WE NEED YOUR HELP, SUPPORT, DONATIONS, AND ENCOURAGEMENT!!!!
Please remember that if we do not meet our goal, we do not receive ANY amount that you pledge! We MUST meet our goal to be funded!!!! Any money that EXCEEDS our goal will go towards increasing the dancers pay! (they are already thanking you! *smiles*)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!!!
THANK YOU FOR SPREADING THE WORD!!!!!
I will update this page with photos and videos of rehearsal as I am allowed to, so you can see our progress, or email our supporters with updates!
Again, THANK YOU. - Warmly, Mindy Caubarreaux
(P.S. Do you know how HARD it is to make a video of yourself? After a gazillion takes, this is what I was left with. I'm sorry it's a bit scripted, but I wanted to be sure all pertinent info was there. I'm usually not so rigid. I am a dancer myself after all *winks*)
