Parenting is not easy.
We were well aware of that when we decided to have a child. But when we had our daughter, we were stunned by how difficult it is to keep track of pumped milk. Besides the logistics around transferring, bagging and freezing the milk, there are all sorts of problems around keeping track of how much milk you have and when it expires. It seems like another job on its own, outside of all the other parenting responsibilities.
It was a lot to handle.
We're problem solvers by nature, so we set off to find a solution to this problem since we were sure that other families were having the same difficulties. After several months of engineering, developing, app building, 3D-printing, testing and re-testing, we created a solution to this storage nightmare - we call it Milk Stash.
Milk Stash is a breast pump to baby storage solution that helps you pump, store and track your breast milk.
No more transferring.
No more tracking.
No more digging.
Just use the ergonomic tray, universal-fit bottles and intuitive app and stay on top of your inventory.
We've been there. You open your freezer and stuff literally waterfalls out. Frozen dinners, ice cream tubs, bags of breastmilk. So, we've created the perfect solution.
Milk Stash is a breastmilk storage system composed of:
- Refrigerator/freezer tray
- Universal-fit bottles
- Integrated iPhone app
Together, these components let you to keep your breastmilk organized without transferring milk or writing anything down while being able to track your inventory effortlessly.
Here's how it works:
1. Instead of wrestling with storage bags, simply use Milk Stash bottles to pump, then put those bottles directly into the top of our tray.
2. Use the app to mark that you've entered a bottle and our app will track that bottle's volume, expiration date, and order in the tray.
3. Remove the oldest bottle from the bottom of the tray, mark the removal in the app, and use the bottle for feeding by attaching a standard-size nipple.
Voila! No more hassle.
The Milk Stash ergonomic tray and bottles make storing breastmilk in the fridge or freezer easy. The tray features a first in, first out system, meaning you always take the oldest bottle first. If you've ever stored breastmilk before, you know how much of a headache it is to search through your freezer looking for the oldest bag.
Each tray holds up to seven 5-ounce bottles and fits into practically every refrigerator. Worried a tray won't fit? Here are the dimensions:
The Milk Stash bottles are designed for end-to-end use, meaning you can pump directly into them, store them as you would a bag and use them for feeding.
Our bottles are:
- BPA-free and shatter-proof
- Designed to fit standard Medela and Ameda pumps (thread size: 40mm)
- Made to perfectly fit into the Milk Stash tray
- Compatible with all standard 40mm thread bottle nipples
Trying to use a spreadsheet to track your inventory is rocket science and takes more time than anyone has to spare. The Milk Stash app does all of the inventory management for you. All you have to do is mark when you've inserted or removed a bottle and the app will do everything else for you.
Here's a quick video demonstrating how the Milk Stash app works:

We've been there. We've cried over spilled milk. We've felt the anxiety of having an empty freezer and we know how miserable uncertainty is. That's why we're in this. We're a small team based in Boulder, Colorado without large funding or a big research lab. We're just a few passionate individuals who want to bring peace of mind to pumping parents.
We have a promise. We want to bring parents only the best. That means custom designing all of our products and never outsourcing production beyond the borders of the U.S. That means bringing the highest standard of development to our app. That means listening to our customers and always being in touch with their needs. Help us keep true to our promise and we'll commit to making the best product we can.
A lot of consumer product Kickstarters are venture capital backed start-ups trying to prove "product/market fit" to secure even more investment on their way to fame and fortune. We're something different. Milk Stash is a small business that's going to stay a small business. We're keeping it lean so we can viably serve pumping mothers, a small, but important, group of people.
Everything we've done so far we've paid for ourselves. But now we need your help. Your support will enable us to start the manufacturing of our product.
Risks and challenges
Creating a product is like raising a child... we know it's not a perfect process and that there are risks.
We have our manufacturing partners selected, but due to the nature of injection-molded products, we have not created a sample using this process. While we have 3D printed samples that work, there may be snags in mass production that we can't foresee at the moment.
We're certain that we will get you a fully working product and we're confident we'll get it to you by the end of April, but we are cognizant that these timelines may shift as we get our production line in order.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
