About this project
CUT YOUR TEETH is a horror short film written & directed by Mike Kochansky.
(Unfortunately for you, I will not be showcasing my phenomenal acting skills in the film. Your loss.)
The short takes place in a suburban California neighborhood and is about a family that encounters some unwanted visitors one night. While there is no time period specified for the film, the look and feel of CUT YOUR TEETH will pay homage to some of the classic horror films of the 80's.
It's hard to say too much else without revealing key plot details, but I can assure you that if you're a fan of horror/thrillers, violence, blood & gore, then you will be pleased. The film is a fun ride that should last roughly 10 minutes when completed.
The purpose of this Kickstarter campaign is to raise enough money to cover all of the production costs. Things like equipment rentals, location fees, craft services, wardrobe, make-up, props, etc. all add up. $5,000 is the minimum amount of money needed to achieve my vision without making sacrifices to the quality and integrity of the film.
CUT YOUR TEETH will be shot in Los Angeles in February or March, and will be submitted to festivals upon completion. The majority of the time it takes to make the film will be spent on pre-production & post-production, but the shoot itself should only take about 2-3 days.
In the event that we exceed our desired goal, every extra dollar that is received will be put straight into the production. $5,000 may seem like a lot of money to some of you but it's an extremely conservative budget, even for a short film. More money essentially means we can do more to increase the production quality. (i.e. rent better cameras & equipment)
With all of that being said, I cannot thank you enough for your time and donations. It truly means the world to me. I will be releasing cast & crew news right here on the Kickstarter page, as well as video updates during the entire process of making the film. You can also follow me on twitter @MikeKochansky for updates and pictures along the way.
You guys rule. Stay spooky.
Risks and challenges
Since the film takes place entirely at a family's suburban home, one of the main challenges is finding the right location that can accommodate what the script calls for. The good news is that some of my friend's homes will work extremely well, just in case I don't find that 'perfect' location. Through a little movie magic, I can also seamlessly combine multiple locations to look like one if need be.
My only other concern is striving to achieve all of my visual effects practically. I have been doing as much research and planning as I possibly can to prepare for some of the tricky shots. I am a huge proponent of practical effects, but I am willing to sweeten some of the shots with CGI if I think that it will ultimately benefit the film.
As far as delivery and fulfillment of rewards, there should really be no issues. To stay organized, I will be keeping a detailed spreadsheet of who gets what and when. I have also carefully selected my rewards based on items that I have existing experience working with.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
