ManOfMany: "The Photo Pocket T-Shirt by Ojo Supply Co. combined comfort and style in a price that won’t make you feel like you should sell an organ to pay for."
GearHungry: "Why should printed T-Shirts have all the fun?"
That Should Be Mine: "He certainly gets my vote with the top-notch tees for the fashion inclined. And, if he lets people pick their own photos for the pocket then that, sir, is a recipe for a win-win."
Hey there, I'm Mike! I'm a born and raised Ohioan, graphic designer and proud resident of Cincinnati, OH.
This is my first Kickstarter project and I'm super excited to introduce to you the Photo Pocket T-Shirt!
Two of my biggest passions are photography and traveling. I really love going to new cities and snapping pictures, especially photos of street art and graffiti. I was flipping through some photos of a trip I took to visit my best friend in Toronto and I had a lightbulb moment. I've always wanted to design and create a set of my own t-shirts and this is the chance.
The idea is really simple: full edge-to-edge photos on the pocket of a t-shirt. The photos will be "sublimation" printed on fabric, hand assembled then custom sewn into a pocket on the front of a t-shirt. Sublimation printing is an awesome process that sets dye into the fabric, allowing for near printed-photo quality and amazing softness.
From there I wanted to brand these shirts to be a launchpad for more designs down the road, so I devised Ojo Supply Co.
Ojo (pronounced o-ho), being Spanish for eye, to me stands for seeing, experiencing and capturing what's around you. I shot an email to my pal in Toronto bouncing this idea off of him and he sent me this: "Sometimes a minute can feel like a year. And sometimes it feels like the years have passed in minutes. That’s why we need to live in the moment. Capture our experiences. To not just look at the world, but to see it. That’s what Ojo Supply Co. is all about."
I couldn't agree more.
I'm working with a local vendor here in Cincinnati to print the pockets and supply the base t-shirts. From there, a crew of master tailors (myself and some pals with sewing experience) will fashion these into Photo Pocket T-Shirts. That's where you come in! I need your help to fund the purchase, printing and hand-assembly of these materials.
I will leave you with this powerful thought: T-shirts are to clothing what cheese pizza is to food. Does a piece of cheese pizza ever really sound bad?
Thanks Kickstarter, let's do this!
Risks and challenges
Right now, only a few samples have been produced as a proof of concept. If this project funds successfully I'll need to wait a bit for an order of materials (pockets and base shirts) from local vendors I've already established contact with.
Also, if this project is successfully funded (or over-funded) I'll need to explore a more scalable solution for the assembly of the pockets. Right now, myself and some skilled sewing buddies will be creating the pockets. However, if backer and supporter demand commands more than a small batch of production (which I hope it will!) I'll need to find an additional sewing vendor or expert tailor.
