July Update

Posted by Mike Gnade (Creator)

I saw some chatter that some people wanted an update so here it is.  I apologize for the delay, but I've been really busy getting everything ready for production and then I was on vacation. I was also hoping to have an unboxing video ready to go for this update...but unfortunately the sample of the game isn't shipping out until this week so I'll save that for another update in a few weeks.

Late Pledging & Address Changes

This past month I have gotten a few emails about changing shipping addresses, you don't need to email me about this - simply login to pledgemanager and follow these steps to change your address:

  • Go into your pledge manager account here:
  • Scroll down a bit and click the blue "Unlock & Modify My Order" button. Then confirm that you actually want to unlock it. Skip through add-ons page.
  • Click on the "Create New Address" button and fill in a new address. Then finally make sure to click the green "CONFIRM ORDER" button to once again close your order. If you don't do that, you'll start getting pesky reminder emails.

I've also been getting a lot of emails about late pledging and if they get all stretch goals etc.  The answer is that you get everything unlocked in the Kickstarter that was not marked as a Kickstarter Exclusive/Add-On. The big piece of that is the Kaiju expansion which you can add-on to a late pledge for $10.

Rise of the Kaiju (Spoiler Alert)

Chaos Vixen
Chaos Vixen

I'm really really excited with how the Kaiju expansion came out. I even re-watched Pacific Rim for inspiration.  I spent a lot of the past month playtesting it and it feels very different which is exciting for someone like me that has been playing the core game for over a year.  The expansion has 3 Kaiju (L, XL and XXL) which each serve as their own mission.  The goal is simple, you just have to kill one monster. I don't want to spoil too much, but as you can see a key to your victory will be finding and powering up some robots to fight them though you can deal damage without them (Kaiju reduce all incoming damage by 2 - meaning the common handgun does no damage at all).  Another big change is that you draw from the monster deck every turn - this eventually triggers the Kaiju hunting you down (placing the actual monster in front of you) but even before then, it's crashing around and attacking you. Remember, they're huge.  I'll save other spoiler-y things for the comments so that people that really don't want to know too much can avoid any more spoilers.

Production Schedule

I've been working a lot with the factory in China and feel like I have a much clearer picture on when everyone will get their games.  I'm pretty confident that you'll be playing before the end of the year. I still need to send out and update revised/final PNP files, but everything else from July is complete.

August 2017: Pre-production Sample and proofing (This is actually a bit ahead of schedule, the sample is going out this week and I'll likely get it next week)

August 2017: Enter Mass Production for Maximum Apocalypse (Maximum Apocalypse and the Expansion will enter production near the beginning of August.  Brass Empire printing is complete but they still need to package/assemble. The Manufacturer told me that they expected they could have Maximum Apocalypse finished and at the port in 70 days).

August 2017: Attending GenCon and PAX West!

September 2017: BostonFIG Tabletop Showcase (I am happy to report that Maximum Apocalypse was accepted to the showcase out of over 100 submissions)

October 2017: Mass Production Completed (estimated)

November 2017: Freight Shipping to Fulfillment Centers (estimated)

November 2017: Pax Unplugged #1 in Philly!

December 2017 - January 2018: Fulfillment!

Once I approve the pre-production sample, there is very little that I will be able to do on my end to expedite the process, but I'm still fairly confident that you guys will be surviving the apocalypse by 2018.  You're definitely not going to have to wait until May 2018.

Conventions & Miscellaneous

I'm going to be pounding the pavement next month and into the early fall going to a lot of conventions and events to promote my little company.  I'm doing my best to keep our FB page updated with potential chances to meet me and play some of our games.  I'll be at GenCon showing playtesting Set a Watch (and maybe another game) in the First Exposure Playtest Hall.  We also sold out a bunch of scheduled events to play Maximum Apocalypse and it will just be general insanity for me that week. PAX West will be crazy too.  Basically if you're attending any major cons coming up or live in Seattle, Indianapolis, Philadelphia or Boston - you'll have a chance to play MA early or get an early preview of some of the games in our pipeline.

I was also interviewed on a podcast and website recently if you're interested:

I think that will do it for now.  If you want to discuss more things Kaiju, comment below.

I was hoping that Rise of the Kaiju expansion would be Toho style Kaiju, not Pacific Rim style.
      C'est la vie.

i'm super stoked for the Kaiju expansion... and i haven't played the game at all yet. the expansion sounds great and as much as i want to know more and see more i feel like that was the perfect little blurb to tell us about it without giving too much away about what we'll see.
      see you at GenCon!
