As promised, here is my first reveal of things to come with the disclaimer that it all can be a terrible idea and not fun to play so I move onto something else.  I am currently planning on the next expansion of the game being horror and somewhat gothic themed.  As many of you suggested in the comments, a Lovecraftian-inspired Apocalypse just makes sense and I didn't include it in the community vote because it's already a piece of this larger idea.

 Lovecraftian Apocalypse

Occult Fanatics have taken over the world and summoned terrifying beasts that roam the land.  I'm not going to go into all of the Cthulu Mythos stuff but will instead talk about what this scenario will bring to the game:

The Monster Deck will be full of cultists and other horrifying creatures.  The true Old Gods will be the Boss characters. This scenario will add a new Malady/Insanity deck of cards. These cards will all be detrimental phobias to your character (i.e. lose an inventory slot, anthropophobia: you can't share a space with another player etc.).  Phobias will be considered a status effect so antidotes and other cards that cure status effects will remove your phobias.  I expect these phobias/restrictions will make navigating the map and dealing with threats more interesting.

How's about a Biblical Apocalypse expansion?

Very cool :D Looks like concept art from Deep Madness, which I am really looking forward to also!

Meh, but it will be an battle to the end: Complete lack of interest in Lovecraft vs completionist tendencies.

A Cthulhu expansion looks great - but please you can't kill an Old God. A Mythos creature should serve as a boss enough. A shoggoth, dark young or formless spawn etc. Please don't design it so you attempt to kill Cthulhu or Nyarlathotep.

Mike said that he would like to do a future KS for a huge expansion. This is a brainstorming idea for that.

@Cheryl: No add on for this KS if I recall it correctly.

Wow, looks and sounds great. If it works out, will it be an add on?

@Justin - the poll has been declared poisoned. Someone messed with it to get to the result they wanted and Mike decided to hold a new (honest) poll through the pledge manager. So nothing's been decided yet.

    9. JLo on

In the Lovecraftian world, the "survivors" should almost always lose.

Where does it say the Kaiju are losing to the bugs? I thought Mike is going to redo the poll during the PM.

Could you please consider to translate the game in other languages as a Stretch goal ??

Bugs are more logical given their size compared to humans and the weapons available in the game (would a rifle / axe work against godzilla / a t-rex? Nope, against insects, very likely), hopefully bugs will make it in the post kickstarter poll for that reason.

Man, I can believe Kaiju is losing to bugs! Kaiju would be a great deck!

Not a fan of the whole Cthulu thing, that said with another kickstarter if it's comparable with this one then it'll be 1 out of 5 decks and I can leave it in the box.

Is a marmite thing though, can't personally think of a Cthulu game I've liked as the theme does nothing for me, will be interesting to see how it develops.

@Jerod: the game will ship with 4+1 apocalypses:
Zombie, Alien, Nuclear, Robot + the community vote (Dinos, Kaiju or Bugs)

the Lovecraft horror is a preview of possible expansion ideas Mike is considering for future expansions.

    17. Jim Silsby Jr on

@Jerod - Hope you'll reconsider dropping. We have four non-Cthulhu Apocalypses to play, and I'm sure Mike will be releasing others (BUGS - right, Mike?) in the future. Cthulhu's not my first choice of add-on, but I'll be happy to get it. (I still remember reading "At the Mountains of Madness" as a teen.) My only caution to Mike is not to let the scale of the creatures get too large. After all, we're talking half a dozen starving survivors with small arms at best - I don't want my only option to be RUN AWAY FAST.

I just realized that you are talking about add-on expansions. that will hopefully be sold separately and individually, so I can pick and choose what ones to get and what others to avoid. That would be perfect.

Not that my 1 little pathetic vote/pledge counts... I know I am in the minority. But I think I might consider dropping out. Nothing is more of a turn off for me than Cthulhu. :(
