Welcome to the Ti2 Whar-Biner project page.
The Ti2 Whar-Biner is a purpose built utility carabiner designed for everyday carry.
We're huge EDC/knife enthusiasts and our Whar-Biner project takes utility inspiration from the Wharncliffe/Sheepsfoot/Coping blade designs. This shape coupled with a "hollow grind" offers excellent strength for chiseling, prying and scraping. *** this is not a knife.
Whar-Biner Line Up
Titanium -- We've selected Grade 5 Alloy (6Al4V) for both the frame and gate for the titanium versions because of its incredible strength characteristics. Grade 5 has double the strength of steel with a UTS (ultimate tensile strength) of 138,000psi and at half the weight.

Anodized Titanium -- Same as our titanium tumbled version with your choice of Blue/Gold Anodizing or Bronze/Gold Poindexter Anodizing**
High Strength Bronze Tumbled
Bronze -- The bronze Whar-Biner frames are jetted from bronze 614. Termed "high strength" this alloy touts an 82,500psi UTS. The gate is made out of "spring" temper phosphor bronze Alloy 510. Both alloys offer all of the unique patina characteristics typically found with copper based alloys.
High Strength Bronze Acid Wash
Acid Wash Bronze -- Same as our bronze tumbled version with acid wash and tumble distressed.
Zirconium -- Coolest Metal Ever? Its rare and expensive and not for everyone, but the finish is unlike anything. When heat treated, a dark grey / black oxide layer forms at the surface that is very hard. These offer excellent wear resistance. The gates are made from Grade 5 titanium and anodized blue. UTS is 55,000psi (about the same as steel)
The design is a result of a multitude of ergonomic tweaks. Jimping is strategically placed for the various utilities within the design. The large key ring slot allows key rings to slide out of the way while used in different configurations and accommodates webbing, para-cord and lanyards.
The Whar-Biner has been scrutinized for design and utility. Our frames are cut using a waterjet and CNC machined with precise detail. Each Whar-Biner is tumbled for 24 hours leaving a "stonewash" matte/smooth finish.

Ti2 Welcomes Poindexter Hashizume
If you're new to our projects or come along for ride previously, finishing is a big part of every product we manufacture. During our last project (TechLiner Revisited), we had the honor of contracting the expertise of a talented Japanese metal finishing expert, Poindexter Hashizume. We had the fortunate opportunity to bring him on full time as part of the Ti2 team. Look for more exciting finishes in the future.
Risks and challenges
I have a background in design, machining and experience managing production jobs. I know the kinds of problems that arise in the shop and how to deal with them quickly and efficiently.
If this project funds and in order to fulfill we will need to:
1. Source Material -- Multiple vendors and quotes are lined up.
2. Machine the parts -- Lowest risk of the process, our machines are optimized for parts like this insuring quick production and high quality parts.
3. Finishing -- We have multiple finishing tumblers that can accommodate the tumbling needs.
4. Fulfillment -- We do our fulfillment in house to offer direct communication with our backers. Our experience on our last projects have helped us develop accurate fulfillment protocol.
