Welcome to the Ti2 TechLiner pen project Revisited
Shortly after the TechLiners were delivered we had "call to action" from our backers for shorter variants and versions made from from Brass, Copper and Bronze.
Acid Wash Copper
Copper versions are made from Copper Alloy 145. Alloyed with Terillium, Copper 145 burnish tumbles and accepts acid wash patina leaving a deep complex color with tones of brown, red, black and blue. The copper TechLiner is the heaviest (56 grams regular -- 47 grams shorty) of the line up and really drives the Signo 207 cartridges well. Finish may vary slightly.
Acid Wash Brass
Brass versions are made from Brass Alloy 360. Considered a free machining brass, it is an alloy produced from a combination of copper and zinc. It has the highest machinability of all copper alloys, and is the standard against which all the others are compared to. Brass 360, known for its strength and resistance to corrosion with properties closely resembling that of steel, is one of the most popular copper alloys used today.
Finish may vary slightly.
About Acid Wash
Each pen is burnished tumbled for 10 hours then they are subjected to a "patina agent" which darkens them. The result is a remarkable deep finish that will last for generations.
We literally spent months experimenting with various tumbling and custom patinas to discover this amazing finish. In our experience we have never seen metal display such a variety and depth of colors like the acid wash versions.
Hand Brushed Copper
10/29/14 -- By popular demand and created with backer input!
Made from the same Copper alloy 145, these versions come straight off the lathe and are hand brushed for a satin smooth finish. These will patina almost immediately and continue to evolve over time.
Polished bronze versions are made from Bronze alloy 630. Alloyed with nickel, this "high strength" bronze is used widely in maritime applications because of its corrosion resistance. Polished Bronze 630 TechLiners have a bright modern hue when compared to regular brass and is more tarnish resistant.
Tumbled versions are bead blasted and tumbled in a proprietary stone wash. The finish is smooth and wear resistant perfect for everyday carry. Finish may vary slightly
Gonzodizing is a unique method of anodizing developed by fellow KS creator Brad Martin. The result is a unique 2 tone Blue/Gold Patina that beautifully evolves with wear. Finish may vary slightly
Titanium Black Edition
Black Edition are PVD (physical vapor deposition) coated. This method offers a deep black DLC (diamond like coating) finish.
Blackwash versions have the same coating as the "Black Edition" then burnish tumbled for a smooth black finish great for EDC Finish may vary slightly
The "shorty" versions are .75" shorter than the original (5" overall) These are great for deep pocket carry.
- Brass and Bronze regular 55 grams
- Brass and Bronze shorty 46 gram
- Copper regular 56 grams
- Copper shorty 47 grams
- Titanium regular 32 grams
- Titanium shorty 28 grams
Add $10 to your pledge for a grade 5 clip to be installed.
Phosphor Bronze Clips
This is a great compliment for the acid wash versions. These clips are waterjet cut, tumbled, bent and acid washed. Add $10 to your pledge for a PB clip to be installed.
Lanyard Caps | Backerkit
We are only offering these via backerkit after the project ends. We will be producing limited quantities for Christmas delivery. After the project ends, we will be using the backerkit to add them on as a first come, first serve basis.
Backerkit pricing for the lanyard cap will be:
- $20 for Brass or Copper acid wash
- $20 for polished Bronze
- $20 for regular tumble finish
- $25 for Gonzodized finish
- $30 for Black Edition or Blackwash
Magnetically retained cap -- The TechLiner shares the same philosophy as the original Ti2 Pen project... Cap retention without threads. Using 3 rare earth magnets, the cap is pulled on tip or tail with approximately 2 lbs of force. We've accomplished this with a unique custom ring magnet that fits around the tip of the Signo 207 refill series.
Machined grip -- When we designed the Techliner we wanted a tactile grip surface comfortable for extended writing sessions. The machined "grid" pattern offers a non-slip, secure grip
DFM -- Designed For Manufacturing. The TechLiner has only 3 unique parts. Lower unique part count means less setup, tooling cost and machine time in turn getting your rewards out quicker!
Delivers in time for Christmas
Our machines are set up and ready to run and we only need funding to purchase the material for a decent size run.

In art school we were required to use technical pens for our design classes. These "needle point" pens offered open sight lines for great precision and use with rulers and french curves. As a sequel pen project we decided to design a titanium heirloom quality "tech" pen for everyday use.
Risks and challenges
I have a background in design, machining and experience managing production jobs. I know the kinds of problems that arise in the shop and how to deal with them quickly and efficiently.
If this project funds and in order to fulfill we will need to:
1. Source Material -- Multiple vendors and quotes are lined up.
2. Machine the parts -- Lowest risk of the process, our machines are optimized for parts like this insuring quick production and high quality parts.
3. Finishing -- We have multiple finishing tumblers that can accommodate the tumbling needs.
4. Fulfillment -- We do our fulfillment in house to offer direct communication with our backers. Our experience on our last projects have helped us develop accurate fulfillment protocol.
The success of this project depends heavily on getting the word out. Every blog or social networking post counts, so please share. Thanks for your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
